The mouthpiece lining paper is a film/foil. In one preferred embodiment, a row of elevations and/or depressions runs along an edge of the mouthpiece lining paper of the type which runs along the overlap region of the mouthpiece lining paper with itself on the finished cigarette.

Between the raised areas, surface regions of the mouthpiece lining paper are provided, above which the raised areas protrude by at least 5 ?m in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the mouthpiece lining paper.
