  • Patent number: 5479863
Abstract: A railroad freight car includes a loading platform and two wheelsets, two double-axle running gears or two bogies, and cushioning is effected by leaf suspension springs suspended by links from spring brackets. The object of the invention is to provide a railroad freight car by using simple, economic devices, in which a facility is provided for driving the railroad freight car beneath cargoes, especially swap bodies or interchangeable containers, for raising the loading platform and, following the reception of the cargo, for lowering the loading platform back into a travel position so as to enable the railroad freight car to be loaded and unloaded independently from loading appliances extraneous to the car. This object is achieved by providing a lifting element interposed between each suspension ring and an associated spring bracket of the loading platform or of the bogie frame.

  • Patent number: 5351624
Abstract: A bogie or truck for high-speed rail vehicles or railway cars includes an H-shaped bogie or truck frame, primary springs cushioning the bogie frame, and a lateral bolster being movable relative to the bogie frame, receiving a coach or car body and being cushioned relative to the bogie or truck frame by air springs. The object is to provide a bogie with a low number of contact points with the coach body, which allows a configuration for rotational retardation, which has a minimum structural width and low weight, which permits small air spring bellows, which allows the installation of additional air reservoirs for the air springs below the lateral bolster and which has additional assemblies disposed at locations which keep the bearing components free from bending or torsional stresses. According to the invention, each air spring is supported directly on the side wall of the bogie frame.

  • Patent number: 5024166
Abstract: A bogie for rail vehicles with a low-seated loading ramp, comprises at least two sets of wheels with a small axle base and a bogie frame comprising lateral cheeks and a traverse extending between every two axles. The sets of wheels are clamped into the bogie frame by axle bearings, and the bogie is connected to the vehicle frame merely by a carrying leaf spring carried by suspension rings. A fixing device cooperates with the suspension rungs to limit the movement of the bogie relative to the rail vehicle. The rocking or swaying properties of the bogie are optimized to improve the running behavior on straight stretches as well as on curves while providing the required transverse play of the bogie. The construction is made more favorably by employing long suspension rings.

  • Patent number: 4569293
Abstract: A freight car is constructed with an undercarriage having a flat cargo floor and with an upright fixed end wall at each end of the floor. A gantry in the form of an arch extends upwardly from the floor substantially centrally between the end walls and a hood support rail extends between the fixed end walls on each side of the floor. The space above the floor is covered by a hood which is of a length to extend between the gantry and one end wall and which includes a roof portion which overlies the gantry and the one end wall and side wall portions which extend downwardly from each side of the roof. The side wall portions carry rollers or casters which are engageable with the rail for supporting the hood for movement along the rail. The hood may be moved when it is in an open position along the rail for example to completely uncover the space between the gantry and one end wall.
