    Abstract: A granular abrasive material is produced from a dispersion consisting of raw materials containing alumina, compounds containing silica and other additives. The dispersion is ground to a sinterable slip with a grain size of less than 1 micrometer. The slip is dried and may be pressed before being subjected to a multi-stage heating process to produce sintered corundum crystals.

  • Method for the manufacture of granular grit for use as abrasives

    Abstract: A pasty mix of granular grits, binder and filler is pressed through a sieve web by rolling action to form cylindrical, worm-like extrusions. After hardening in a heating duct the extrusions are subjected to the same action and thereby granular grit particles are formed each of which contains several grits.The apparatus for carrying out the method includes a sieve web which co-operates with a rotor having several freely rotatable rollers around its periphery.

  • Treated polyester fabric for use in flexible abrasives

    Abstract: A treated polyester fabric for use as a carrier for a flexible abrasive is impregnated with a substance which comprises at least one amine formaldehyde resin. Preferably, in the dry state, the impregnating substance comprises at least 10% by weight of the resin(s), and weighs at least 20% of the weight of the fabric alone. Urea and melamine formaldehyde resins are particularly useful.
