  • Patent number: 4846549
Abstract: A display device and method are provided whereby light rays from a glareproducing light source are concentrated on the signal portion of the display device to enhance its luminosity. Display devices are provided that use reflecting and refracting light concentrators and signal portions that might include translucent light directing means or collimators. The invented display devices can find application in various fields where glare occurs.

  • Patent number: 4817550
Abstract: A stabilizing system for vehicles such as sailing craft, ice craft or racing cars that are periodically subject to lateral forces that tend to heel or roll such vehicles, the stabilizing system having a ballasted member laterally movable and positionable by non binding locking mechanism, the method to use the stabilizing system providing the ballasted member to be moved only by forces present in the environment such as wind or wave energy, centrifugal, gravity and inertia forces, the method allowing surface vehicles to execute turns with their weight more evenly distributed among their wheels or runners and allowing sailing vessels to sail with windward heel and reduced resistance and better balance.

  • Patent number: 4707979
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method to produce and utilize propulsion forces on objects or devices by the controlled release of energy derived from absorbed radiation. The direction of the propulsion forces is controlled by controlling the rotation, configuration and composition of the absorber. Apparatuses are provided that comprise a rotating absorber and means to control the direction of the required thrust forces by adjusting the rotation, temperature, position of absorbing members, amount and kind of storing substance, by selective shading of the rotating absorber and re-directing the released energy once emitted.

  • Patent number: 4525111
Abstract: The present invention relates to rotary tool bits driven by electric tools where torque forces are transmitted to the rotary tool bits by way of adapting means through the shank portions of other tool bits already in the electric tools. These adapting means comprise elongated members closely, axially aligned disposed about these rotary tool bits and have inside surfaces adapted to fit said shank portions. The elongated members are pressed against said shank portions by compressing means which might be sliding sleeves. The adapting means might comprise two, three or six such elongated members. Low friction sliding sleeves with interior rolling members for such rotary bits are also provided.

  • Patent number: 4403755
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of providing thrust and added lift to a vehicle by accelerating fluid heated by solar energy. The present invention also relates to apparatus for carrying out the aforementioned method. Accordingly, the present invention relates to a method of providing initial acceleration and propulsion or enhancing the initial acceleration and propulsion of a vehicle in an environment having at least some fluid, the vehicle being of the type having at least one member, at least a portion of which is treated for absorbing solar radiation for heating fluid adjacent the member for use in propelling the vehicle through the environment. By use of direct and/or focused solar radiation, fluid is heated, accelerated and deflected away from a vehicle by natural or forced convection to provide thrust and lift of the vehicle.
