  • Patent number: 9440204
Abstract: A mixer for mixing an exhaust flow in an exhaust pipe includes a housing having a first sidewall spaced apart from a second sidewall. The first and second sidewalls each include a free distal end spaced apart from one another. Portions of the first and second sidewalls are adapted to be fixed to the exhaust pipe. A first mixing element is coupled to the housing and includes a deflection element as well as a plurality of correction fins protruding at an angle from the deflection element. A second mixing element interconnects the first and second sidewalls and extends substantially parallel to the first mixing element. A second mixing element includes a mixing fin to change a direction of the exhaust flow.

  • Patent number: 8939638
Abstract: A mixer for mixing an exhaust flow with a fluid injected into an exhaust pipe includes a first mixing element including a base interconnecting first and second sidewalls and a deflection element positioned to be impacted by the injected fluid as well as a mixing fin positioned downstream of the deflection element. A second mixing element includes first and second spaced apart mounting flanges fixed to inner surfaces of the first and second sidewalls. Alternately, the mixer includes first and second mixing elements positioned within circumferentially spaced apart slots axially extending from an open end of a tubular housing.

  • Patent number: 8272777
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for mixing an exhaust gas flow with a fluid in an exhaust gas pipe 40 of an exhaust gas system 4, in which the fluid is injected by means of an injection device 5 into the exhaust gas pipe 40. The exhaust gas flow is guided in the exhaust gas pipe 40 in the area of the injection device 5 in a direction of flow S parallel to the exhaust gas pipe 40. The fluid is injected directly onto a deflection element 6 which is arranged in the exhaust gas pipe 40 in a central direction of injection E which deviates from the direction of flow S by an angle se, wherein by means of at least one sheet metal part 60 which is provided on the deflection element 6 and which is raised at least partially at an angle sv with reference to the direction of flow S, the exhaust gas flow is diverted with reference to the direction of flow S from its direction of flow S into a central direction of distribution V.

  • Publication number: 20110289906
Abstract: A system for controlling the temperature of an exhaust stream from an engine at a location upstream from an exhaust aftertreatment apparatus includes a main exhaust passageway adapted to receive the exhaust stream from the engine. A side branch is in communication with the main exhaust passageway. A regeneration unit is positioned within the side branch for combusting a fuel and heating the exhaust flowing through the main exhaust passageway. An ion sensor is operable to output a signal indicative of the presence of fuel combustion. A controller selectively operates the regeneration unit to increase the exhaust temperature. The controller is operable to control a supply of fuel to the regeneration unit based on the ion sensor signal.
