  • Patent number: 5888267
Abstract: A gob distributor has an outlet from which issues a gob that is fed via a channel arrangement to a mold having an upwardly open inlet mouth. The channel arrangement has a central trough having an inlet adjacent and aligned with the distributor outlet and an outlet. This central trough extends downward from its inlet to its outlet. A deflecting trough has a generally straight upstream portion with an upper inlet aligned with the central-trough outlet and a downwardly directed lower outlet centered on a generally vertical axis and an upright downstream portion having a funnel-shaped and downwardly tapering passage also centered on the generally vertical axis and having an upper upstream end aligned with the upstream-portion outlet and a lower downstream end aligned with the mold mouth. An adjuster is connected to a hanger for displacing the downstream portion relative to the upstream portion to align the downstream-portion downstream end exactly with the mold mouth.

  • Patent number: 4983290
Abstract: A slit-tube filter has a hollow cylindrical filter element of bent wires which are attached to vertical retaining supports and form horizontal slits between themselves through which the liquid to be filtered passes, the cylindrical inner wall of the filter elements forming the filter surface adjacent the flow of liquid. The liquid flows from the inside of the filter element to the outside. A stripping device passes over the filter surface adjacent the flow of liquid, and bears against the inner wall of the cylinder. The stripping device is a coaxial helix of brushes which rotates in relation to the filter element in a direction such that the suspended and settleable solids disposed on and in front of the filter surface are conveyed downwards.

  • Patent number: 4408529
Abstract: A plate clamping device for clamping flexible printing plates in rotary printing machines includes an upper guiding rail and a lower guiding rail to receive and clamp a printing plate therebetween. The device is provided with two spaced from one another bolts and a clamping arrangement centrally positioned between said bolts. The clamping arrangement includes an eccentric stud extending normally to the elongation of the lower rail and a wedged key mounted between the upper rail and the stud. The stud has a surface having a flat portion, a transition curved portion and a cylindrical portion. The wedged key is arranged in engagement with this surface and upon rotation of the stud the key may rest on the flat portion of the stud when the device is in a plate-releasing position or the key may engage with the cylindrical portion of the stud whereby the key is self-arrested and the rails clamp a printing plate.

  • Patent number: 4368668
Abstract: An arrangement for facilitating the mounting of printing plates on a plate cylinder of an offset printing machine. Two arms are mounted atop the machine at the opposite lateral sides thereof and have free ends provided with hooks. A rail is suspended from these hooks and carries quick-coupling devices which engage the trailing edge of a printing plate to be mounted. The hooks are suspended on ropes which are wound upon rollers mounted on the free ends of the arms; turning of the rollers in a sense causing unwinding of the ropes is resisted by torque springs or similar devices; this resistance can be varied to compensate for printing plates of different weights. Thus, the weight of the printing plate cannot cause the ropes to unwind; however, when the leading edge of the printing plate is connected to the plate cylinder and the cylinder is slowly rotated to take the plate up on it, the pull exerted by the cylinder causes unwinding of the ropes.

  • Patent number: 4295423
Abstract: The liquid-distributing roller assembly for printing machines is composed of two opposite pairs of guiding tracks secured to the machine walls. One track supports for rectilinear movement a two-stage transmission gear unit in which one end of the shaft is supported for rotation; the other end of the shaft is supported for rotation and for a rectilinear movement in the opposite track. The shaft supports for rotation and for an axial displacement a liquid distributing roller which at one end is connected to a first spur gear rotatable on one end of the shaft and being in permanent engagement with an elongated transmission gear. The latter is also in permanent engagement with a second spur gear which is connected for joint rotation to the shaft. The other end of the shaft supports a cam which engages a cam follower connected to the distributing roller so that as soon as the latter is rotated an axial reciprocating movement is generated by the cam mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4220903
Abstract: A system for guiding a tool according to a predetermined direction includes a detector head which photoelectrically scans a line of the pattern with the line varying in width at predetermined locations and with the output signals of the scanning photoreceptors being conductable to a switching device having an adjustable switching threshold so that when the scanning is in the area of the altered line width an auxiliary signal is formed in addition to the control signal for the coordinate motors.

  • Patent number: 4040347
Abstract: A printing machine has a plurality of rubbing rollers which are rotatable about respective rubbing axes and serve to transfer ink to a form roller. Each of these rubbing rollers is connected via a link to a respective cam follower engaging in a respective continuous circumferential cam groove in a cam that rotates about an axis parallel to the roller axis. The cam follower is normally nonrotatable about the cam but its angular position about the cam can be adjusted so as to closely control the inking characteristic of the respective rubbing roller. The angular position of each rubbing roller is determined by means of a calculator which is set up to hold a diagram on which is plotted the inking density of the material to be printed against the form roller position. A plurality of sliders each corresponding to a respective rubbing roller are independently displaceable on the support adjacent the diagram and each carry indicia indicating the inking characteristic of the respective rubbing roller.

  • Patent number: 4033262
Abstract: An ink or liquid pickup roller is partially immersed in a bath of liquid and is rotated about a horizontal axis in one rotational sense. An applicator roller spaced from the pickup roller is rotated about its horizontal axis in the same rotational sense. A transfer roller is rotated in the opposite rotational sense about its horizontal axis and radially continuously engages the applicator roller. This transfer roller also is oscillated about the axis of the applicator roller into periodic contact with the roller to receive therefrom a coating of ink or other printing liquid. The transfer roller therefore rolls off the pickup and applicator rollers, but the peripheral velocities of the transfer roller is different from the peripheral velocities of the pickup and the applicator rollers.

  • Patent number: 4023423
Abstract: A four-bar kinematic chain has an input member which includes a portion formed with a guide channel, an elongated output member that is pivoted intermediate its end portions, and a link member having one end pivoted to one end portion of the output member and another end portion provided with a sliding block received in the guide channel. A crank drive is connected with the input member for oscillating the same and the guide channel, to thereby effect oscillatory movement of the other end portion of the output member and concomitant movement of an element to which the other end portion is coupled. An arrangement is provided for arresting the sliding block at selected locations in the guide channel, to thereby permit a variation in the stroke and frequency of the movements of the other end portion of the output member.

  • Patent number: 3945279
Abstract: Retarding markings are provided alongside a linear pattern to be cut out by an automatic device guided by a photoelectric scanner. The markings are disposed a short distance ahead of the changes in direction of the pattern line, which is greater than the resultant decelerating path of the advance motors from the original faster advance speed to the resultant slower advance speed. A timing circuit initiates the change in advance speed after the retarding mark is detected and a second timing circuit changes the overhang of the line-scanning photocells from an initial greater magnitude to the lesser required magnitude correspond to the slower advance speed. Acceleration marks may also be provided after directional changes in the pattern to accelerate the advance speed back to the original advance speed after the changes in directions are accomplished.
