  • Patent number: 6102610
Abstract: Two composite parts, such as sheet and a hollow gas turbine liner tile, are fastened together using a fastening system that includes a journal bearing that fits in a bore in the sheet and springs to support a bolt fastener that is tightened to hold the parts together. Resilient spacers are placed between the sheet and the liner. The springs may comprise a stack of rings, each ring being a tightly wound helical spring, giving the ring a hollow cross section and resilient qualities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 7, 1996
Date of Patent: August 15, 2000
    Assignee: United Technologies Corporation
Inventors: Mark E. Palusis, Carlos G. Figueroa, Daniel C. Friedberg, Gary D. Jones, Gunther Eichhorn

  • Patent number: 5535585
Abstract: A gas turbine exhaust liner contains air holes and a transverse slot to relieve thermally induced stresses on the liner, which is a catenary. The slot is covered by a seal, also a catenary, having two pieces that are joined in a way that allows them the expand with the liner so that the seal does not place thermal stresses across the liner.

  • Patent number: 5228836
Abstract: The runner for pumping hot reactor liquids includes a runner body which is connected with a shaft portion which transmits a driving torque. An annular insert is disposed between a bearing sleeve projecting from the runner body and the drive shaft portion to define an annular flow path in order to guide an auxiliary flow which, in the case of an injection operation, leads cool reactor liquid to the runner in one direction of flow and, in the case of a leakage operation, leads hot reactor liquid for cooling away from the runner in an opposite direction of flow. A closed cavity is formed between the runner body and the drive shaft portion in a transition zone between the two components so as to reduce the cross-sectional area for the transfer of heat between the runner body and the drive shaft portion. The cavity is formed by a blind bore which has a diameter greater than 30% of the outer diameter of the shaft portion.

  • Patent number: 5072785
Abstract: Disclosed is a bolt assembly which includes two spacers having cooling channels defined therein which communicate with a central bore, and a bolt which extends through the bore of each spacer. The diameter of the shaft of the bolt is significantly less than either of the spacer bore diameters, allowing coolant entering the cooling channels of one spacer to circulate through the spacer bores and out the cooling channels of the other spacer, thereby cooling the bolt.

  • Patent number: 4799623
Abstract: A variable area convergent divergent nozzle has floating divergent flaps which shift from a low mode to a high mode depending on internal and external pressure. The lost motion connection which permits this is biased to retain the appropriate mode for long term cruise conditions, to reduce ovalization of the nozzle, and to stabilize and/or dampen vibrations.

  • Patent number: 4594851
Abstract: An improved flameholder has a plurality of flameholder attachments removably mounted in cutouts in the downstream edge of a shroud of the flameholder. Each attachment includes a support plate which fits into one of the cutouts and a plurality of fan gutter flameholding elements rigidly mounted on the plate. A slip joint links the plate to the shroud and stiffeners which are fastened together connect each flameholding element to the shroud.

  • Patent number: 4468566
Abstract: The invention relates to a digital circuit arrangement for control of a corpuscular beam in the procedure of structurizing areas by use of corpuscular irradiation devices operating with linearly extended multi-deflection systems, particularly for use in microlithography, constituted of a plurality of like circuit members for producing columns which contain figure edge points, each member including three triggers for storing edge course control signals indicative of the edge course, the three triggers output signals are combined in antivalence in the respective circuit member to yield an edge point signal. Furthermore, the circuit members are combined in a columnwise member arrangement in which the triggers form shift registers for a positive and negative shift direction.
