Abstract: The present invention is directed to an apparatus for formulating a custom mixed cosmetic product at the point of sale in response to specific input criteria. The apparatus includes a plurality of containers for storing a plurality of cosmetically functional mixtures. The cosmetically functional mixtures are adapted to combine to form a cosmetic product. An input means is provided for entering into a computer the specific input criteria that is representative of a customer's need. The computer outputs a series of instruction sets in response to the specific input criteria to a dispensing means. The dispensing means automatically and sequentially dispenses the plurality of cosmetically functional mixtures into a formulation receptacle in response to the instruction sets. The plurality of cosmetically functional mixtures combine in the receptacle to form a custom mixed formulation of cosmetic product at the point of sale.

Abstract: A hair treatment system and appliance which are precisely and accurately controlled by a microprocessor in which data stored in memory is utilized to control different types of hair treatment programs for different types of hair. The system is utilized in association with a head bonnet adapted to be placed about the hair being treated and having a heater therein for heating the hair during the treatment program. A control panel allows a selection and entry to be made on the type and porosity of the hair to be treated, from eleven different possible combinations thereof indicated on the panel. A memory has stored therein a treatment time and temperature for each of the possible combinations, and a processing circuit is responsive to the particular entry to retrieve the proper treatment time and temperature from memory. A separate temperature sensor probe is utilized to detect the temperature produced by the heater at the hair during its treatment.

Abstract: A device for selecting a curling rod of a specified diameter to provide a curl of selected size and configuration in permanent waving with a reducing medium of known composition, comprising a card which is provided with a horizontal tapered slot which has an enlargement beyond its widest end, a plurality of pairs of aligned vertical guide lines both above and below the slot, and in substantial alignment with each pair of guide lines a depiction of a curl showing its approximate size and configuration as obtained by the use of the curling rod of the measured diameter.
