The scanners provide scan information to the document assembly system.     Abstract: Generating an e-mail message that includes data indicating that the e-mail message is to be stored on a computer system of the receiver. Software receiving the e-mail message reads the data indicating that the e-mail message is to be stored and stores contents of the e-mail message in a specified location for future retrieval by the receiver. A method embodying the present invention includes receiving a request from a sender to store an e-mail message on a processing system of a receiver. A flag indicating the e-mail message is to be stored in a location other than the receiver's in box, is set in the e-mail message. The e-mail message is then transmitted to a selected receiver. Software receiving the e-mail message for the receiver reads the flag indicating the contents of the e-mail message is to be stored. The software then stores the contents of the e-mail message in a location other than the receiver's in box.

    Abstract: In one aspect, the invention encompasses a method of identifying the location of interchangeable media handling devices relative to one another and relative to an image forming device. A data communication path is provided in parallel data communication with a plurality of media handling devices, and also in data communication with a processor. A power connection path is provided and configured to provide power sequentially to the media handling devices. The media handling devices are initially in an lower power state. Power is provided through the power connection path to the individual media handling devices to change the power state of the media handling devices from the lower power state to an higher power state. The power travels sequentially through the power connection path to each of the media handling devices, and the individual media handling devices send a signal to the processor after they receive power.

The method includes determining if the electronic representation of the page is oriented in a predetermined orientation. If the electronic representation of the page is not oriented in the predetermined orientation, the electronic representation of the page is rotated so that the electronic representation of the page is in the predetermined orientation. Thereafter the electronic representation of the page can either be imaged or stored in a computer readable memory. The steps can be performed by a page orientation program which is executed by a processor in an imaging device. The imaging device can include an optical scanner to generate the electronic representation of the page from an original tangible document.

In a preferred method, a database of information pertaining to machines to be monitored and biometric characteristics of users of the machines is provided. A communications mechanism is employed to transmit the biometric characteristics of the users of the machines, and machine usage information associated with the usages of the machines, to a processor which has access to the database of information. The processor is employed to process the biometric characteristics of the users of the machines, the machine usage information, and information from the database to determine amounts to be allocated and/or charged for the usages of the machines.

Preferably, the document processing system includes a scan review system that is configured to receive scan information corresponding to a scanned document.     Abstract: A method for alerting a user when the time has arrived to replace a media feed roller on a printing device, employs statistical analysis of data gathered relating to the number of pages between misfeeds associated with the media feed roller. It has been ascertained that the misfeed rate associated with media feed roller failure follows a characteristic pattern, which may be treated as a step function. That is to say that, beginning with a new media feed roller, the feed failure rate, which is usually measured in pages printed between misfeeds, remains relatively constant. However, as the time for replacement nears, the graph begins to plunge precipitously, as misfeeds begin to occur with increasing regularity. After the plunge, the misfeed rate continues to increase, but at a decreasing rate. Eventually, the feed failure rate reaches a value that represents a misfeed during every page feed. The optimum time for replacement is deemed to be shortly after the graph begins to plunge.
