Abstract: Document processing systems are provided that are capable of facilitating scanning of one or more documents via multiple scanners. In this regard, a preferred document processing system includes a document assembly system. The document assembly system is configured to electrically communicate with a first scanner, which may be assigned to a first group of scanners, and a second scanner, which may be assigned to a second group of scanners. The scanners provide scan information to the document assembly system. The document assembly system is configured to correlate the scan information received from the first scanner with the scan information received from the second scanner. Abstract: A preferred method for generating a document includes the steps of: providing an applicant with a visual representation, via a visual display device, of at least a portion of a document; prompting an applicant to provide first information corresponding to a first portion of the document; receiving the first information, as a first vocal response, from the applicant; converting the first vocal response to corresponding first textual data; providing the applicant with an updated visual representation, via the visual display device, of the first textual data appearing at the first portion of the document; and generating a printed document corresponding to the updated visual representation of the document. Abstract: Generating an e-mail message that includes data indicating that the e-mail message is to be stored on a computer system of the receiver. Software receiving the e-mail message reads the data indicating that the e-mail message is to be stored and stores contents of the e-mail message in a specified location for future retrieval by the receiver. A method embodying the present invention includes receiving a request from a sender to store an e-mail message on a processing system of a receiver. A flag indicating the e-mail message is to be stored in a location other than the receiver's in box, is set in the e-mail message. The e-mail message is then transmitted to a selected receiver. Software receiving the e-mail message for the receiver reads the flag indicating the contents of the e-mail message is to be stored. The software then stores the contents of the e-mail message in a location other than the receiver's in box.

Abstract: In one aspect, the invention encompasses a method of identifying the location of interchangeable media handling devices relative to one another and relative to an image forming device. A data communication path is provided in parallel data communication with a plurality of media handling devices, and also in data communication with a processor. A power connection path is provided and configured to provide power sequentially to the media handling devices. The media handling devices are initially in an lower power state. Power is provided through the power connection path to the individual media handling devices to change the power state of the media handling devices from the lower power state to an higher power state. The power travels sequentially through the power connection path to each of the media handling devices, and the individual media handling devices send a signal to the processor after they receive power.

Abstract: A method of formatting an electronic representation of a page of a document to be imaged by an imaging device. The method includes determining if the electronic representation of the page is oriented in a predetermined orientation. If the electronic representation of the page is not oriented in the predetermined orientation, the electronic representation of the page is rotated so that the electronic representation of the page is in the predetermined orientation. Thereafter the electronic representation of the page can either be imaged or stored in a computer readable memory. The steps can be performed by a page orientation program which is executed by a processor in an imaging device. The imaging device can include an optical scanner to generate the electronic representation of the page from an original tangible document.

Abstract: A method and processing system for using biometric characteristics such as physiological traits to monitor machine usage. In a preferred method, a database of information pertaining to machines to be monitored and biometric characteristics of users of the machines is provided. Mechanisms for determining biometric characteristics of users of the machines during usages of the machines are also provided. A communications mechanism is employed to transmit the biometric characteristics of the users of the machines, and machine usage information associated with the usages of the machines, to a processor which has access to the database of information. The processor is employed to process the biometric characteristics of the users of the machines, the machine usage information, and information from the database to determine amounts to be allocated and/or charged for the usages of the machines.

Abstract: A document processing system provides information corresponding to a scanned document. Preferably, the document processing system includes a scan review system that is configured to receive scan information corresponding to a scanned document. The scan review system enables selection of a registration characteristic of a page of a document to be scanned. Once the registration characteristic is selected, the document may be reviewed relative to the selected registration characteristic. So configured, in response to identifying a page of the document as not possessing the selected registration characteristic, the scan review system may designate that page(s) for review. Abstract: A method for alerting a user when the time has arrived to replace a media feed roller on a printing device, employs statistical analysis of data gathered relating to the number of pages between misfeeds associated with the media feed roller. It has been ascertained that the misfeed rate associated with media feed roller failure follows a characteristic pattern, which may be treated as a step function. That is to say that, beginning with a new media feed roller, the feed failure rate, which is usually measured in pages printed between misfeeds, remains relatively constant. However, as the time for replacement nears, the graph begins to plunge precipitously, as misfeeds begin to occur with increasing regularity. After the plunge, the misfeed rate continues to increase, but at a decreasing rate. Eventually, the feed failure rate reaches a value that represents a misfeed during every page feed. The optimum time for replacement is deemed to be shortly after the graph begins to plunge.
