  • Publication number: 20080045916
Abstract: Superabsorbent polymer particles having a reduced amount of fine-sized particles and methods of producing the superabsorbent polymer particles are disclosed.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 22, 2004
    Publication date: February 21, 2008
Applicant: Basf Aktiengesellschaft a German corporation
Inventors: Norbert Herfert, Michael Azad, Guy Woodrum
  • Publication number: 20070123624
Abstract: A method of drying an absorbent polymer includes providing the absorbent polymer. A surfactant having a C10 to C24 ester group is incorporated with the absorbent polymer. An acid value of the surfactant is increased to further increase drying efficiency of the absorbent polymer. More specifically, after increasing the acid value of the surfactant, the absorbent polymer exhibits improved pumpability and spreadability, as compared to absorbent polymers including the surfactant without having the acid value of the surfactant increased.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 30, 2005
    Publication date: May 31, 2007
Inventors: Jay Otten, Guy Woodrum, Christopher Utz
  • Publication number: 20060089611
Abstract: A color-stable superabsorbent polymer having long-term color stability, and methods of manufacturing the polymer, are disclosed. The superabsorbent polymer is prepared using a sulfinic acid derivative, like 2-hydroxy-2-sulfinatoacetic acid, a salt thereof, or a mixture thereof, as the reducing agent in a polymerization initiator system for the preparation of a superabsorbent polymer from monomers. The resulting superabsorbent polymer resists color degradation during periods of extended storage, even at an elevated temperature and humidity.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 19, 2004
    Publication date: April 27, 2006
Inventors: Norbert Herfert, Michael Azad, Peter Carrico, Guy Woodrum, Michael Mitchell, Ma-Ikay Kikama
  • Publication number: 20050245393
Abstract: Surface-crosslinked superabsorbent polymer (SAP) particles having a clay in the vicinity of the surfaces of the SAP particles a clay are disclosed. The clay is added to SAP particles during surface crosslinking to substantially reduce the generation, and recycling, of SAP fines, and to provide SAP particles having an improved acquisition rate of fluids and an improved permeability of a fluid through the swollen SAP particles. Diaper cores and absorbent articles containing the surface crosslinked SAP particles also are disclosed.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 24, 2003
    Publication date: November 3, 2005
Inventors: Norbert Herfert, Michael Azad, Michael Mitchell, Guy Woodrum, William Chiang
  • Publication number: 20050239942
Abstract: Superabsorbent polymer (SAP) particels containing a clay are disclosed. The clay is added to an SAP hydrogel prior to SAP neutralization to provide particles having improved fluid acquisition rates and an improved permeability of a fluid through the swollen SAP-clay particles. Diaper cores and absorbent articles containing the SAP-clay particles also are disclosed.
