  • Publication number: 20230292857
Abstract: A protective headgear system includes a cover including a substantially transparent facial shield, a sheet sealingly coupled to the facial shield around the cover's perimeter, the sheet including a substantially anterior portion including a first sheet material configured to act as a substantial barrier to the passage of air, and including a substantially posterior portion including a second sheet material configured to filter contaminants from air, and one or more seams between the first sheet material and the second sheet material, a flow restrictor configured to significantly create a flow barrier between the cover and the neck of a user for providing an interior volume, an air mover configured to draw some of the external air into the interior volume, a filter coupled to the cover, and one or more flow directors configured to direct internal air, including at least some exhaled air, toward the second sheet material.

  • Publication number: 20230120007
Abstract: A protective headgear system includes a support configured to engage the head of a user, a facial shield having an upper portion coupled to the support and a lower portion having a lower extremity, a flexible sheet coupled to the facial shield, a base carried by the support, a first microphone carried below the lower extremity of the facial shield and preferentially oriented away from the user, a second microphone carried by the base and preferentially oriented toward the user, a first audio generator capable of being sensed by at least one ear of the user, and a second audio generator including a loudspeaker carried by the base such that the loudspeaker is located below the lower extremity of the facial shield and is oriented for preferential sound energy delivery generally away from the user.

  • Patent number: 5868771
Abstract: A scalpel blade sheath which encloses and retains a scalpel blade therein. A scalpel handle is selectively inserted into the sheath whereby the scalpel blade is securely attached to the scalpel handle in preparation for cutting operations. The sheath is selectively slipped onto the scalpel handle to expose the blade for the cutting operation. The sheath is repositioned over the scalpel blade to protect the blade (and the user thereof) when the cutting operation is concluded. When the blade is to be removed from the scalpel handle after the cutting operation, the scalpel blade is retained within the sheath for safe and sanitary disposal of the blade and the sheath.

  • Patent number: 5806335
Abstract: A cold temperature therapy device for use on localized areas of the human body. The device includes a flexible, pliable liquid circulating pad which may be readily conformed to a portion of the human body. The pad is connected to a liquid source via a suitable pumping or liquid moving device which supplies liquid to the pad. The liquid moving device may be manual or powered. The liquid is, effectively, stored in a measurement tray which is disposed adjacent to a cooling unit. The apparatus (with the exception of the pad, the manual pump and the connecting conduits) is maintained in a carrying case which can be insulated to enhance the operation of the cooling device.

  • Patent number: 5779649
Abstract: A surgical suction wand comprising a generally tubular body with a hollow tip at one end thereof, a cap releasably closing the other end of the tubular body, and a filter member within the body and joinable to the under surface of the cap. The hollow tip communicates with the interior of the body. A tubular connector is mounted externally on the cap and communicates with the interior of the cap and the body. The filter member within the body defines a first chamber between the filter member and the body and a second chamber within the filter member which communicates with the tubular connector through the cap. One or more apertures through the filter member permit limited communication between the first and second chambers. The cap has positioning means therein for locating and securing one end of the filter member within the cap and body. The other end of the filter member is closed and disposed in the body adjacent to the hollow tip.
