  • Patent number: 6293060
Abstract: A door frame has hinge and latch jambs extending from opposite ends of a header jamb. Each jamb has an inside section for extending into a doorway opening in a wall and having a molding section extending laterally outwardly from the respective inside section for overlying a face of the wall adjacent the doorway opening. Each molding section includes an inner end extending from the inside section, an outer face extending generally perpendicularly from the inner end and an outer free end extending generally perpendicularly from the outer face. A jamb securing and sealing flange is joined to a jamb. The flange has first and second end sections coupled by a centered section. The first second is substantially parallel to and affix to a inner surface of the outer face of one jamb. The second end section extends substantially parallel to the first end section and laterally outwardly beyond its outer free end.

  • Patent number: 5749184
Abstract: A frame assembly for a door light is formed with inner and outer half-frames sandwiching a translucent panel. The half-frames have a plurality of side members defining a closed polygon. Each side member includes, in cross-section, a flat portion for supporting the frame in an opening in a support, a face portion extending from the flat portion towards the center of the polygon, a third portion extending inwardly from the face portion toward the other half-frame and to a position adjacent the translucent panel, and a fourth portion extending from the third portion parallel to the face portion and away from the center of the polygon. Fasteners extend through bores in the inner half-frame and engage clips slidably adjustable in the outer half-frame to couple and secure the half-frames in the support opening. Each clip has a base with an opening receiving a fastener, and legs with flanges engaging the fourth portion and a lip on the flat portion of the outer half-frame.

  • Patent number: 5601257
Abstract: The yaw control in an air vehicle having counter rotating rotors is provided by selectively and controllably applying a frictional drag or braking force to drive gears for the two rotors. Each of the drive gears includes a friction surface. Friction pads are located adjacent to and are releasably engagable with the friction surfaces of the drive gears. The friction pads are supported by a control mechanism for selectively moving each of the friction pads into engagement with the respective drive gear to provide a frictional drag on the drive gear and to a disengaged position spaced from the respective drive gear. The frictional forces created by engagement of the friction pads with the drive gear friction surfaces cause net torques on the air vehicle frame to rotate the air vehicle in the desired directions. Normally, the torque developed the counter rotating rotors is canceled, maintaining the air vehicle in the desired yaw orientation.

  • Patent number: 4896458
Abstract: A door is formed by latch and hinge panels which can be attached without fasteners or welding. Each of the panels is formed of a unitary piece of sheet metal and includes a rectangular face member, a side flange extending substantially perpendicularly from the face member along one of its side edges, a first latch formed along a free lateral edge of the side flange remote from the face member, a second latch formed along the opposite side edge of the face member and end flanges extending substantially perpendicularly from the face member along the end edges. The first latch of each panel is secured to the second latch of the other panel such that the panels are secured and form the door, with latches being located at diametrically opposite corners of the door. An insulating core member is located between the panels.

  • Patent number: 4453752
Abstract: An adapter assembly is used in combination with a door of the type having an elongated opening to receive a bolt extending from a lock which is mounted in a door coupled to the frame. The adapter assembly comprises an elongated strike plate, mounting means for coupling the strike plate to the frame in one of two inverted positions and an adjustable cover. The strike plate has an elongated, generally rectangular aperture longitudinally offset toward one end of the strike plate. The adjustable cover is coupled to the strike plate for closing at least a portion of the strike plate aperture and the opening in the door frame. This provides a simple mechanism for customizing the opening in the door frame to any one of a wide variety of different lock and knobset arrangements by varying the size and location of the opening.

  • Patent number: 4430836
Abstract: A frame assembly for mounting a light in a door comprises inner and outer half-frames which sandwich a translucent panel therebetween. Each half-frame is substantially identically formed as a unitary member from sheet metal and has a plurality of substantially identical side members which define a closed polygon. Fasteners couple the half-frames to each other and secure the half-frames in the opening in the door. The fasteners can include a plurality of externally threaded fasteners which extend through holes in the half-frames and a plurality of plastic tubular retainers. Each tubular retainer has an axially extending bore coaxially aligned with one of the holes in each of the half-frames and threadedly receiving two of the fasteners in its opposite ends. The unitary nature of the frame and the fastener arrangement facilitate manufacture and assembly, while the fastener arrangement additionally provides a thermal break between the metal half-frames.

  • Patent number: 4413397
Abstract: A metal door is provided with a rectangular opening the edges of which are bent to form a ledge. Two half-frame structures are formed from side members and corner pieces which snap into the side members and the half-frames are placed in the opening from opposite sides and held together by threaded fasteners so that the frame does not protrude beyond the door faces. A method of cutting the plates removed from the rectangular opening to obtain all material for side members, corner pieces and muntins is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4080813
Abstract: A mounting plate having three knockouts for three bolt locations of a deadbolt lock is mounted behind a rectangular opening in the edge of a hollow door. A filler plate and a cover plate are provided to cover the unused ones of the knockouts. When no deadbolt lock is installed in the door, the entire filler and cover plates are used to substantially fill the rectangular opening. When a dead bolt is installed in the door, a knockout is removed to leave an opening at the proper location for the bolt to pass through. The deadbolt lock bore drilling is made on the selected centerline either by the distributor or installer. The filler and cover plates are broken along weakened separation lines and appropriate portions thereof are attached to the mounting plate to cover the unused knockout locations. An adjustable backset lockset mounting arrangement is mounted adjacent the rectangular opening to receive and support the lockset in either of two positions. Breakouts in the door are preformed.
