Abstract: A control circuit for controlling the compression of image signals for recording and for controlling the expansion of compressed image signals for reproduction includes a recording signal processing circuit which receives a plurality of image signals produced by a plurality of image sources, such as a plurality of video cameras, and a reproducing signal processing circuit, in which a compressed image signal is subjected to an expansion and error correcting process. In the recording signal processing circuit, respective ones of the plurality of image signals are, in turn, subjected to a compression process that reduces the length of the original image signal. The image signal thus compressed is then output to at least one video tape recorder for recording. In the reproducing signal processing circuit, the compressed image signal is expanded to its original length and any errors found therein are corrected.

Abstract: The invention provides an automatic contrast controller of a video camera including: a pedestal level sample-and-hold circuit for the video signal clamped to the pedestal level by the clamping pulse, a signal below reference level detecting circuit to remove the unnecessary signal by blanking so as to detect the only signal below the reference level, a lowest value detecting circuit to detect the lowest value of the average image signal detecting circuit for signal detecting average image signal and the clamped video signal, a comparing circuit to compare the output of the lowest value detecting circuit with the average signal level for amplification, and an amplifying circuit of variable gain to vary the gain of the signal below reference level detecting circuit, thereby setting the lowest signal level up to the specified level by the pedestal level and average level.

Abstract: A chroma key signal generator for a video editing apparatus which enables a chroma key signal to be obtained from a composite video signal. The chroma key signal generator includes a color selecting circuit which provides one or more chrominance subcarrier signals having predetermined phase differences from the chrominance subcarrier signal separated from a color video signal, selects one among the chrominance subcarrier signals and provides a specific chrominance signal by adjusting the phase of the selected chrominance subcarrier signal, and a phase detecting circuit which compares the phases of the selected chrominance signal and the chrominance signal separated from the color video signal and provides the chroma key signal when the phases of the chrominance signals are detected to be the same.
