  • Patent number: 4942081
Abstract: A fusion bonded fiber product is made by compressing between heated dies a mat of moisture-containing fibers of the type that change irreversibly to an amorphous non glassy state that permits fiber-to-fiber bonding at a characteristic critical temperature. The further compression of the partially compacted mat is stopped when the mat is a small multiple of the desired caliper for the bonded product for a period sufficient to vaporize the moisture content of the mat. During this pause, most of the vaporized moisture content of the mat is expelled as saturated steam through the mat surfaces while the temperature of the mat is still well below the critical temperature. Then, the compression of the mat is continued under continuous consolidation to the final density and caliper of the fusion bonded product while the mat is heated to a temperature above the critical temperature.

  • Patent number: 4440635
Abstract: A process, and apparatus for recovering cellulose fibers from contaminated paper-plastic mixtures by exposing the mix to controlled wetting to increase the weight of paper cellulose components relative to the weight of the plastic components; subjecting the wetted mixture to abrasive forces to fiberize the paper component and then separating the fiberized paper cellulose product from the plastics and other contaminants, to yield several classified products showing distinctly improved quality.

  • Patent number: 4111744
Abstract: Cellulose-containing materials such as wood fiber or vegetable fibers are permanently fused in a fast-acting process by subjecting the fibers to conditions producing a new state of fusion and chemical combining under intensive heating while excluding oxygen, and requiring little or no primary binder additives. This fused cellulose is reached by introducing cellulose materials having equilibrium moisture content from 2% to 50% (preferably 3% to 12%) into an oxygen-excluding reaction station having temperature in the range from 450.degree. F to 800.degree. F and wherein dielectric energy is applied in conjunction with high ambient temperature. The temperature is well beyond the normal cellulose carbonizing temperature and cellulose combustibility at temperatures of about 400.degree. F. Specific exposure of the materials to elevated temperature is accurately controlled to minimize possible carbonizing.

  • Patent number: 4072273
Abstract: A solid waste pollution control process for the dry recovery and restoration of 100% recycled paper pulp, machine cleaned confetti thrashed paper, fibrous fuels, plastic materials and construction aggregates from "solid municipal refuse", consisting of municipal household garbage, household yard trash, and commercial trash from supermarkets and retail establishments, condominiums, apartments, offices and warehouses. The solid municipal refuse is automatic machine sorted, machine chopped and thrashed and machine and air cleaned and is subjected to specific gravity and ballistics separation to recover the confetti thrashed paper while eliminating and rejecting from this confetti thrashed paper the loose, soft, decayed, wet and extraneous matter including high density particles and abrasive materials, such as metal particles, grit and glass such that this extraneous matter and materials are separated into fibrous fuels and construction aggregates.
