  • Patent number: 6901701
Abstract: A pre-cut, pre-painted shutter door includes a pair of vertical members available in a range of discrete or quantum heights, and having a two level slot along their length for engaging an upper and a lower panel to form the outer portions of a shutter door. Vertical members are preferably pre-tapped with bores to facilitate threaded member access to engagement for attachment to the upper and lower panels. The upper and lower panels have a curved surface to either facilitate direct manual pivoting of the louvers or to provide clearance for an optional common actuator bar. A louver pivot support fits within the two level slot of the vertical members and carries a series of pre-drilled holes for pivotally supporting the louvers. Both the vertical members, panels and louver member supports are of constant cross section to facilitate the use of finger joints and to promote continuous extrusion-type processing. A series of louvers have shafts which extend through pre-drilled holes in the louver pivot supports.

  • Patent number: 6866079
Abstract: A blind extension system with removable soft side blinders or light blocking structures provides an organizational system which can be used to reduce light due to improper sized blinds without damaging the blinds or the window frame itself. In one embodiment, a sock-like structure is used to attach lengths of decorative materials at the outer ends of horizontal blinds. The sock-like structures are provided periodically along the vertical length of a projecting soft, decorative material. A series of extension pins can be used to assist the horizontal extension of the soft decorative material sufficient to reach the sides of the window opening space. Alternative methods of attachment are shown including a first embodiment of a clip attachable with vertical movement onto the elongate edge of a louver, and a second embodiment of a clip which is attachable with horizontal movement directly onto the end edge of the louver.

  • Patent number: 6807783
Abstract: A window frame molding system with removeable and interchangeable moldings of the present invention provide an organizational system which can be used to install, change, and remove window frame moldings while not damaging the window frame itself. For a rectangular installation, the entire structure can consist of four straight pieces of metal, plastic, synthetics, or wood, as mounting members, with the ends either flat or cut angularly at 45°, as the base of the structure. Further, four decorative moldings and four junction pieces of metal, plastic, synthetics, or wood, interfit with the mounting member in a configuration with the moldings being slide locked into place and the junction pieces securing the decorative moldings in place. Because of the variety of materials which can be used to make the window frame moldings, they are both inexpensive and easy to manufacture.

  • Patent number: 6769472
Abstract: The structures and process for producing the structures of the invention enable extensive and efficient use of block scrap for slat manufacturing. The techniques employed advantageously accomplish two goals simultaneously, enabling scrap, such as block scrap, to be formed into longer effective lengths. Such longer effective lengths can then be cutably formed into slats of various sizes. The joinder of the block scrap is by deeply extending, finite interlock length finger joints which, once the material is cutably formed into slats, remain as relatively shallow (the thickness of the slat) and finite interlock length finger joints. The joints have the added benefit that they statistically “break up” any grain differences which would otherwise create warp, and enable long lengths of slat to be employed from several shorter lengths of scrap. An applied covering layer may be applied by wrapping or insertion.

  • Publication number: 20040140062
Abstract: A quantitative shutter construction system and installation method for shutters enables the the provision of a window opening of given dimension and for which a series of pre-cut parts are selected from a set of parts set having a prime quantum magnitude distance magnitude with regard to their vertical and horizontal dimensions with a selection based upon prime quantum magnitude distance as a difference between the next longer and next shorter member. A frame system and a window shutter system which fits within the frame system is also provided in discrete quanta of linear magnitude to provide a result of no more than a quanta of magnitude smaller than the window opening. Shimming is used to center and fit the frame into the window opening, with attachment had by preferably direct threaded attachment into either the face or the inside of a window opening.

  • Patent number: 6758257
Abstract: The structures and process of both forming and trimming the blind set include the provision of a channel extension or channel plug utilized in a blind set which has the louver manipulation components significantly inward to permit a reasonable amount of outboard removal while maintaining the balance and regular appearance of the blind set. The channel plug acts to stabilize the “U” shaped upper channel by having an insertion portion which not only fills a structurally significant extent of the channel, but fully upwardly engages a pair of oppositely oriented curved inwardly and downwardly lips. An extension portion of the channel plug has a pair of upper rails which match and blend with the terminus of the pair of oppositely oriented curved inwardly and downwardly lips to provide both stability, visual continuity, and continuous upper, frontal, rear, and bottom support as will be had from the particular mounting method employed.

  • Patent number: 6732475
Abstract: A user customizable adjustable shutter system employs a variety of synergistic features which may be used individually or in combination to enable a user to install a shutter set in a manner which will produce a professional finish, but without the negative aspects accompanying most custom installation processes. The system may be commercially available as a kit, or may be available as kit components which can be purchased as needed. Pre-manufactured shutter members are provided with pre drilled holes to accommodate threaded members, typically wood screws, to hold a series of decorative extensions which can be added to increase the horizontal dimension. Decorative extensions can also be inserted to increase vertical distance, if desired. A decorative extension formed to widen shutter members and as a combination middle handle and covering member may be provided to both affect the width and to eliminate the middle light gap.

  • Patent number: 6602014
Abstract: Several embodiments of the shutters employ a variety of synergistic features which may be used individually or in combination to produce a shutter capable of more completely shutting out light. One aspect is the use of a two-step overlapping end to provide a complementary fit in order to shut out light. Another aspect is the use of an angled engagement pin which engages the louver not at its edge, but into its main expanse and nearer the center of pivot of each louver. Another aspect is the use of an accommodation space to accommodate the “U” shaped attachment member of the simultaneous actuation handle, which accommodation space can vary in size and depth to accommodate structures extending from the simultaneous actuation handle. Regardless of relative size, the louvers, engagement pins, and simultaneous actuation handle can be disciplined to form a neater appearance on the shutter assembly.

  • Patent number: 6595478
Abstract: A curtain rod support system includes a support member and a mounting plate attachable to a supporting structure with a pair of screws. The mounting plate has a fixed member, and preferably a threaded member extending therefrom and engageable with the support member, virtually eliminating the need for additional, trial and error adjustment of the mounting plate with respect to the supporting structure. The mounting plate is first affixed to the support structure using the pair of screws, the fixed screw of the mounting plate is inserted into a blind bore in the support member, and the support member is rotated until the screw has essentially fully advanced within the bore. The support member has a second bore completely therethrough and through which a curtain rod may be extended so that the support member bears the weight of the curtain rod and suspended draperies.

  • Publication number: 20030029578
Abstract: A modularized horizontal blind set provides a configuration which is easily modifiable, reduces inventory costs and waste. The only ultimate waste created from the modularized horizontal blind set is the trimming of ladder and elevation string or cord during assembly of a cord and louver assembly to a channel and component assembly. A cord and louver assembly, includes a base slat, a series of slats inserted into a ladder cord, and a set of elevation cords strung through the slats, with the ladder cord and elevation cords preferably properly tied off to enable a rapid layout and interconnect with a selected channel member. In forming a custom sized assembly, workers can utilize a chart based upon the vertical height of the top channel, and the spacing of the ladder chord.

Lengths of scrap may be laterally joined before processing and as such the process and product can further salvage scrap wood narrower than the slat being produced.
