Patent number: 8200838Abstract: A method of controlling the flow of an amount of data from a sending peer to a receiving peer of a predetermined communication protocol is described. The method comprises dividing the amount of data into a plurality of data segments, where the data segments are ordered in a sequence. The segments are sent to the receiving peer in the order of said sequence. The receiving peer acknowledges the correct receipt of a data segment and identifies the last correctly received data segment of the sequence that was received in the proper order of the sequence. The sending peer is arranged such that if it receives a threshold number of duplicate acknowledgements, it performs a retransmission. The threshold number that trigger a retransmission is an adaptive parameter determined based on the size of a receive window, the size of the receive window representing a number of data segments which can be stored in a buffer space at the receiving peer.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Reiner Ludwig, Hannes Ekström

Publication number: 20120134264Abstract: In a mobile communication environment, the data traffic is mapped to a number of bearers (52, 54). In a downlink direction, this is accomplished by filtering data packets on the basis of an identifier which is included into the data packets in response to packet inspection. In the uplink direction, a mirroring function is applied which detects incoming data packets, which are received on one of a plurality of bearers (52, 54) and have a first identifier, and outgoing data packets having a second identifier which is complementary to the first identifier. The outgoing data packets having the complementary second identifier are routed to the same bearer (52, 54) from which the incoming data packets are received.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 2, 2009Publication date: May 31, 2012Inventors: Reiner Ludwig, Hannes Ekström

Patent number: 8175074Abstract: A system and method for specifying the quality of service in a transmission of data packets between a service entity and a user equipment is provided. A plurality of service classes relating to the quality of service are preconfigured and a selected service class is selected. A first transmission context, associated with a first set of attributes, is established between a core network node and the user equipment. A second transmission context, associated with a second set of attributes, is established between an access node and the user equipment. The selected service class is specified by a third set of attributes, which is forwarded to the core network node and the access node. The third set of attributes is used to determine the first set of attributes and/or the second set of attributes.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2005Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Reiner Ludwig, Per Hans Ake Willars, Hannes Ekstrom

Patent number: 8130074Abstract: The technology described relates to management of data packets and buffers comprising segments of data packets in a mobile communication system. Information associated with data packet segments is analyzed by a Base Station System (BSS) housing a data buffer. Based on this information analysis, the BSS can identify those segments in the buffer that constitute a complete data packet. Once identified, the segments can be discarded from the buffer. The information can include size information, whereby the analysis comprises pairwise comparing the size of a current segment with the size of a next consecutive segment. This size comparison enables identification of a first segment and a last segment of the complete data packet. The information could also, or alternatively, include a notification provided in the header of the segment. This notification identifies the associated segment as the first or last segment of the data packet or an intermediate segment.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2003Date of Patent: March 6, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ingo Meirick, H{dot over (a)}kan Nordstrom, Erik Westerberg, Paul Schliwa-Bertling, Hannes Ekström

Publication number: 20100046374Abstract: A method is described for controlling the conformance of a data flow in a communication system to a traffic definition. The communication system comprises a transmitter and a receiver and data packets transporting the data flow are sent from the transmitter to the receiver. The receiver sends responses identifying received data packets to the transmitter, and the transmitter comprises a control function which controls the number of sent data packets for which no response is received according to a limit for the number of outstanding data packets. In the method, a conditioning criterion is obtained for the data flow, the conditioning criterion being associated with the traffic definition. The receiver determines a conformance parameter for the received data packets transporting the data flow. The limit and/or the sending of the responses is modified according to the conditioning criterion and the determined conformance parameter for controlling the number of transmitted data packets.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2006Publication date: February 25, 2010Inventors: Reiner Ludwig, Mats Sagfors, Hannes Ekstrom
