  • Patent number: 5355857
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for internal combustion engines has a pump housing, at least one pump piston which is rotatable and reciprocatingly movable, a cam drive which rotates and reciprocatingly moves the pump piston and includes a stationary part and a rotatable part, a fixing element which determines a rotary position of the stationary part and also radially engages the stationary part and is fixed tangentially to the stationary part, a valve operative for loading a pump working chamber limited by the pump piston during a feed stroke of the pump piston for controlling an injection-active pump piston stroke, and a mounting element which releasably mounts the fixing element on an inner side of a part of the pump housing.

  • Patent number: 5188083
Abstract: The invention is based on a fuel injection pump in which to supply a very rapid pressure rise in the interior of a fuel injection pump, a pressure valve controlling this pressure is modified such that upon cold starting of the engine, the pressure valve closes a bypass line at the feed pump and thus delivers all the fuel to the fuel injection pump. The closure is effected as a function of rpm and accordingly pressure, and also as a function of the engine operating temperature; in the fuel injection pump according to the invention, the rpm- and pressure-dependent diversion is performed by the adjusting piston of an injection adjuster. Thus, compared with the known cold-starting accelerating devices, one additional pressure limiting valve can be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5005548
Abstract: A fuel injection pump is proposed in which over a first portion of the supply stroke of the pump piston fuel for the main injection is pumped via a distributor line and a distributor groove into one at a time of a plurality of fuel injection lines. In a second, remaining portion of the pump piston supply stroke, on the same cam flank, fuel is then pre-stored in a reservoir, controlled by a first electrically controlled valve and a second electrically controlled valve and by one of a plurality of longitudinal control grooves, which fuel subsequently, before the beginning of the next main injection determined by the closure of the first electrically controlled valve, is pumped via a second distributor line into the next succeeding injection line.

  • Patent number: 4658772
Abstract: A glow plug electrically heated during start-up to help bring the air-fuel mixture of an internal combustion engine to ignition temperature when the engine is cold, instead of being turned off as soon as the engine is running, has its heating current controlled so as to maintain the glow plug temperature within a desired range, as the result of which the engine can be made to run more quietly and more smoothly under many conditions. The current control unit which varies the glow plug current responds to the output signal of a computing unit responsive to various engine operation parameters, including especially a signal representative of the rate of feeding fuel to the engine.

  • Patent number: 4211204
Abstract: To heat the glow plug for an internal combustion engine, a spiral band or ribbon is wound in an essentially co-planar spiral about a central bolt secured to the bottom of the glow plug, the outer terminal of the spiral being connected to a lead-in with highly positive temperature coefficient of resistance to provide for self-limiting current flow upon heating of the glow plug. All free spaces in the glow plug are filled with a highly heat-conductive insulating material, for example magnesium oxide.

  • Patent number: 4200077
Abstract: To prevent damage to the heating wire of an electrically heated glow plug due to non-uniform expansion of materials within the glow plug upon heating thereof, and particularly due to excessive expansion of filler material surrounding a spiraled heating wire, the filler material is made in two sections, one being located within the spiral of the heater wire and comprising a material of a thermal conductivity of expansion approximately matching that of the heater wire, typically high-temperature annealed aluminum oxide, magnesium aluminum spinel, silicon nitride, boron nitride, silicon carbide, or the like, the outer section between the heater wire and the inner wall of the glow tube being of a material of good heat conductivity, such as magnesium oxide.
