Patent number: 7347423Abstract: An arrangement in connection with a mechanical seal includes at least two sliding surfaces pressing against each other, which are arranged to seal a gap between a rotating and a non-rotating machining part, and mechanism for providing a sealing fluid flow cooling the sliding surfaces. To provide an optimal consumption of sealing fluid, a valve mechanism is arranged to the mechanism for providing the cooling sealing fluid flow, the valve mechanism being arranged to react to the temperature of the seal and to open and close the flow of sealing fluid according to the cooling need.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2002Date of Patent: March 25, 2008Assignee: Safematic OyInventors: Hannu Trygg, Esa Salovaara

Patent number: 7322231Abstract: The invention relates to a flowmeter for regulating and monitoring the flow of sealing fluid to be conducted to a seal of a rotating shaft, the meter including a sealing fluid metering channel, a sealing fluid inlet, and a connection towards the seal for regulating the flow of sealing fluid, a non-return valve for preventing the sealing fluid from flowing back to the flowmeter, a regulating and monitoring mechanism, whereby the sealing fluid flows through the opening, and a cleaning mechanism, which is movable by an actuator. The non-return valve is arranged as an extension of the metering channel at the meter outlet side end, coaxially with the metering channel, whereby the metering cone is in mechanical contact with the non-return valve, and thus it is also possible to clean the non-return valve with the cleaning mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2006Date of Patent: January 29, 2008Assignee: John Crane Safematic OyInventors: Hannu Trygg, Harri Makkonen

Patent number: 5924446Abstract: A control apparatus for a liquid medium including a body portion provided with flow channels. The body portion includes an inlet for the medium, an outlet for the medium to an apparatus that the medium is conducted to, a return point for the medium returning from the apparatus, and a discharge point through which the medium is discharged from the control apparatus. A flow control valve and flow and pressure measuring devices are arranged after the medium inlet in the flow channels of the body portion. A pressure control valve for controlling the pressure in the flow channels between the flow control valve and the pressure control valve is arranged after the return point. For safety reasons, a pressure relief valve is arranged in the channel system of the body portion provided by the flow channels between the flow control valve and the pressure control valve, the relief valve being arranged to open as the pressure exceeds a certain allowed value.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1995Date of Patent: July 20, 1999Assignee: Safematic OyInventors: Alpo Ikonen, Hannu Trygg, Esa Salovaara

Patent number: 4869463Abstract: A lubrication system for leading a lubricant from a lubrication unit to a point to be lubricated, the lubrication unit and said point being movable with respect to each other. The system comprises means for leading a quantity of the lubricant at predetermined intervals from the lubrication unit to the point to be lubricated. For reducing the demand for space, a fast coupler is provided for leading lubricant from the lubrication unit to the point to be lubricated. The fast coupler is arranged to be in a position allowing the flow when the lubrication unit and the point to be lubricated are interconnected and in a position preventing the flow when the lubrication unit and the point to be lubricated are detached from each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1988Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: Oy Safematic Ltd.Inventors: Heikki Niittyla, Hannu Trygg, Juhani Ljokkoi, Esko Poikolainen, Raumo Vehmaa

Patent number: 4700953Abstract: The invention relates to a slide-ring seal which comprises a frame portion provided with connections for a sealing liquid and seal rings (4) provided with slide rings (5). Each slide ring (5) is thereby fastened in place by means of a shrinkage fit. In order to provide a better wearability and a better sealing effect, each seal ring (4) is formed by two ring portions (7, 8) which are fastened on each other by means of a radial shrinkage fit. The slide ring (5) is essentially L-shaped in cross-section so that the slide ring is provided with at least two supporting surfaces (9, 10) extending in parallel with the sliding surface. A radial clearance (11) is provided between the outer periphery of the slide ring (5) and the inner surface of the seal ring (4). The supporting surfaces (9, 10) of the slide ring (5) are supported on the seal ring (4), whereby the slide ring (5) is fastened on the seal ring (4) solely by an axial press fit.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1985Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: Oy Safematic Ltd.Inventors: Juhani Kuusela, Esko Lopperi, Markku Lummila, Pertti Saksala, Esa Salovaara, Tuomo Suhonen, PerttinaHarri, Esko Poikolainen, Hannu Trygg
