  • Patent number: 10641712
Abstract: A system for sorting reusable raw-material pieces, where the chemical composition of the raw-material pieces is analyzed by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), where the raw-material pieces in a first step are subjected to a plurality of first laser pulses in order to remove surface coatings and/or contaminants from the raw-material pieces, and in a second step, one or more further laser pulses from the same laser are used to generate a plasma.

  • Publication number: 20170261437
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for sorting reusable raw-material pieces (5) which are moved continually in conveying direction (2) by a transport means (1), where the chemical composition of the raw-material pieces (5) is analyzed by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) and automated sorting of the raw-material pieces (5) is implemented depending on the composition found, where the raw-material pieces (5) in a first step are subjected to a plurality of first laser pulses (6) in order to remove surface coatings and/or contaminants from the raw-material pieces (5), and in a second step, one or more second laser pulses (7) are directed at those locations of the raw-material pieces (5) from which the surface coatings and/or contaminants have been removed, with exposed material of the raw-material pieces (5) being converted by the second laser pulses (7) into a plasma, where the laser (3) used for the first and second laser pulses (6, 7) is the same, and the area of the raw-material pie

  • Patent number: 9487844
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the removal of coatings from scrap materials (3), wherein the scrap (3) is brought into contact with a liquid and, while the coating removal process is performed, moves within a conveying trough (2) of a vibrating conveyor (1) in a direction (6) from the inlet end (7) towards the outlet end (8) of said conveying trough (2). The invention is of special importance for the dezincing of steel scrap. The method operates on a continuous basis with the removal of coatings being efficiently accomplished.

  • Patent number: 9339849
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the processing of metal scrap, in particular steel scrap, wherein the metal scrap material is treated with at least one fluid with a view to removing surface coatings before a spectroscopic analysis of the metal scrap composition is performed. On the basis of this composition the metal scrap can then be sorted and further processed in a purposeful manner. Moreover, the fluid used for the removal of the surface coatings can be suitably treated to recover the metal constituents contained therein. On the one hand, a resource-conserving and economic recovery of metals, in particular zinc, contained in surface coatings is achieved by means of the inventive method and, what is more, the method also enables a purposeful sorting of metal scrap material to be performed for a variety of uses in the iron and steel producing industry.

  • Patent number: 8574339
Abstract: Complete dezincing of steel scrap is achieved by the addition of oils, whereupon the dissolution of iron is substantially suppressed through the autogenous inhibition effect of the oils. The steel scrap arising when the dezincing process has been completed is protected against corrosion by the remaining film of oil, the corrosion protection preventing the formation of iron oxide layers and thus blackening of the scrap material. The oil discharged with the dezincing solution can be separated as a pure phase by resorting to flotation in support of the process and can then be reused as an inhibitor.

  • Publication number: 20110271796
Abstract: The invention claims a method for the selective acidic dezincing of steel scrap. The selective complete dezincing is achieved by the addition of oils, whereupon the dissolution of iron being substantially suppressed through the autogenous inhibition effect of the oils. The steel scrap arising when the dezincing process has been completed is protected against corrosion by the remaining film of oil, said corrosion protection preventing the formation of iron oxide layers and thus blackening of the scrap material.
