  • Patent number: 9233445
Abstract: An apparatus for machining metal workpieces has a frame defining machining, pick-up, and drop-off stations. A vertical slide is vertically shiftable on the machine frame. In turn a horizontal slide carrying a rotatably driven holder is horizontally shiftable on the vertical slide between respective pick-up, machining, and drop-off positions above the stations. A holder is provided in the machining station, and one of the holders is adapted to hold a tool and the other of the holders for holding a workpiece for machining the workpiece in the machining station. A pair of shields is fixed to the vertical slide and horizontally flanks the machining station. One of the shields is between the machining station and the pick-up station. Respective slidable doors on each of the shields are shiftable between a closed position blocking movement of the rotatable holder past the respective shield and an open position permitting such movement.

  • Patent number: 9011208
Abstract: A machining apparatus has a frame carrying a headstock capable of gripping one end of an elongated workpiece and rotating the workpiece about a machining axis. A turntable support is spaced axially from the headstock on the frame. A tailstock carried on the support can be aligned with the machining axis in a machining position of the support. A machining drive is carried on the frame and itself carries a rotatable grinding disk engageable radially of the machining axis with the workpiece when the workpiece is engaged between the headstock and tailstock. A dressing tool carried on the support axially offset from the support axis and angularly offset about the support axis from the tailstock is engageable in a dressing position of the support with the grinding disk for dressing same in the dressing position with the workpiece engaged between the headstock and tailstock.

  • Patent number: 6920679
Abstract: A machine tool in which the workpiece is transported by a pair of longitudinal carriages with transverse and vertical carriages supporting the workpiece holders to a machining region from a workpiece replacement region. In the machining region the workpiece is displaced relative to the tool and possibly rotated. In the workpiece replacement region, the workpiece is replaced in the machine tool by a workpiece which has not been machined.

  • Publication number: 20030182782
Abstract: A machining system has a frame defining at least one work station, a guide extending in a first direction on the frame, first and second slides movable independently of each other on the guide, and a support having a pair of sides. Respective first and second main links each have one end pivoted on the support at a respective one of the sides and an opposite end pivoted on a respective one of the slides. A machining unit is carried on the support. Actuators connected to the slides can independently move them and thereby pivot the support and unit about an axis perpendicular to the guide and move the support and unit parallel and transverse to the guide.
