  • Patent number: 4892320
Abstract: A stuffing box especially for a high pressure steam valve has a plurality of packing rings including at least one laminate ring flanking a coiled graphite pressed ring, the laminate ring consisting of a stack of pressed expanded graphite foil annular disks between which and flanking which stainless steel metal foil layers can be provided.

  • Patent number: 4784411
Abstract: The joint packing, especially for sealing two abutting flanges or surfaces, comprises a sealing ring core composed of a slightly deformable metal and opposing plastic deformable soft sealing seats. The sealing ring core has chamber-defining formations on its upper side and lower side outer edge (and inside edge) running circumferentially between which the soft sealing layers are pressed when the sealing forces are applied thereto. The chamber-defining formations have a bulged rounded cross section. The surfaces between the chamber-defining formations on the outside edge and the inside edge are smooth and arched.

  • Patent number: 4215745
Abstract: A heat-exchanger shell comprises a tube of generally cylindrical shape subdivided by a planar diametral partition plate into a pair of compartments. At each axially extending outer edge of the partition plate there is provided a one-piece seal unitarily formed of a pair of generally parallel inner flanges defining a groove in which the respective outer edge of the plate is snugly received and a pair of oppositely outwardly directed flanges bearing tightly radially outwardly on the inner wall of the tube. The seal may be made of a profiled piece of elastomeric synthetic-resin material, or of a piece of austenitic sheet steel. The shell is assembled by deflecting the inner flanges elastically apart and fitting them over the outer edges of the plate, then sliding the plate with the seals into the tube with simultaneous inward deflection of the outer flanges of the seals.

  • Patent number: 4109923
Abstract: A joint between two pipe flanges comprises a substantially flat annular spacer with slightly beveled faces confronting respective flange surfaces, each of these faces having an annular groove occupied by a sealing ring of relatively soft metal projecting therefrom. Prior to assembly, each sealing ring has a ridge of preferably pointed cross-section protruding toward the confronting flange face against which that ridge is flattened upon a tightening of the assembly.
