Abstract: Soft packs for cigarettes, especially soft-cup packs, acquire an additional reinforcement in the region of a bottom wall (20) by means of a two-layer or multi-layer design of a cup blank (21, 22) in the region of the bottom wall (20). The two-layer or multi-layer reinforcement of the cup blank (22) can also extend into the region of adjoining pack walls.

Abstract: A special transfer turret (15) is used for conveying packs (10) from, for example, a folding turret to a drying turret. The transfer turret transports the packs (10) along a circular path or partially circular path and in the axial direction at the same time. For this purpose, pockets (16) for packs (10) are fitted on carrying rods (28) which are displaced in an axis-parallel direction during the rotation and in accordance with the same.

Abstract: For the production of soft-cup cigarette packs, use is made of folding mandrels (13) which are designed as hollow bodies, on the outside of which pack blanks (12) are folded, and into which a cigarette group (11) is pushed. To produce a precise pack, the folding mandrel (13) preferably consists of two mandrel parts (19, 20) which are connected to one another by thin laser-weld seams (21, 22). The two mandrel parts are made of spring-steel sheets. The folding mandrel (13) so designed is releasably fastened to a folding turret in a special way via a connecting piece.

Abstract: Hinge-lid boxes comprise box part and lid. In order, in the case of this type of pack, to ensure an exact closed position of the lid before use, connecting webs or material webs are formed between lid and box part, said webs being severed when the lid is opened. Preferably, the material webs are located exclusively in the region of inner side tabs and lid side tabs, for connection of the same in the region of an obliquely directed abutment edge and mating edge.

Abstract: For high-performance packaging machines, a correspondingly large stock of cigarettes must be supplied. A container magazine (11 ) serves for receiving a plurality of containers (12) combined to form storage units (18). Each container receives a relatively large number of cigarettes. Filling takes place via a bottom wall (17). The storage units (18) can be moved up and down and transversely within the container magazine (11). The containers (12) are also designed in a special way, in order to guarantee fault-free filling and emptying.

Abstract: Packages consisting of two part packs are in increasing demand as so-called cigarette sticks, because consumers want "half sticks", that is to say part packs having a smaller number of cigarette packs. The part packs are produced from a common one-piece blank which is severed before the package is put on sale, so that part packs formed from two part blanks are obtained. These are connected to one another by means of severable connecting members, especially adhesive strips. The mechanical high-performance production of such packages composed of two part packs is carried out in a folding turret. A one-piece blank is introduced into pockets of the folding turret and almost ready-folded. The groups of cigarette packs are then pushed via open sides into the part packs within the pockets.

Abstract: A bundle pack, especially a cigarette carton, formed from a plurality of cuboid packages which are wrapped in an outer wrapper made of cardboard, paper or plastic film has to be designed such that the individual cigarette packages can be easily marked on one outer side without opening the outer wrapper. For this purpose, the outer wrapper is provided with cut-outs which are located in the region of the outer sides of the packages. Adjacent cut-outs (17) are delimited from one another by narrow webs (19) of the outer wrapper (14).

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for turning (cigarette) packs. Laterally acting driven turning belts (21, 22, 23, 24) serve for turning (cigarette) packs (10) during transport of the packs along a pack track (18). Two pairs of turning belts (21, 22) and (23, 24) act upon lateral regions of the packs (10) which arrive in a position, in which their longitudinal dimension is directed transversely relative to the conveying direction. The turning belts (21, 22) of the one side are driven at a different speed compared to the turning belts (23, 24) of the other side, so that the packs (10) are oriented in an increasingly oblique manner during transport. After the packs (10) have assumed an extreme oblique position, the turning procedure is completed by stationary lateral guides (40, 41) which are disposed so as to converge in the conveying direction.

Abstract: Labels (10), especially revenue stamps, are usually affixed to cuboidal cigarette packs (11). The labels have to be supplied and held ready for being received by the packs (11) in sufficient numbers. The labels (10) are successively severed length- or breadthways from a continuous web of material (17) and are then directly fed into a magazine (14), from which the labels are extracted at the lower end as required. Without any conversion, the type of labels to be processed can be changed by way of (temporarily) manually inserting labels into the magazine which is appropriately designed for this option.

Abstract: It is a problem with hinge lid packs for cigarettes, that the pack content (cigarette block 29) often has a smaller depth than the interior space of the pack, so that the cigarette block (29) has to be supported by a filling piece. This filling piece is provided in the form of a supporting body (31) which is formed by appropriate folding of a collar front wall (25) from a collar arranged in the pack. An upper portion of the collar front wall (25) is inwardly set back, such that a supporting wall (32) abuts the (smaller) cigarette block (29). Collar side tabs (26, 27) connected to the collar front wall (25) extend across the full depth of the interior space of the pack and are connected to the supporting wall (32) via panels (37, 38) folded parallel.

Abstract: A device for the application of labels to packages, such as cigarette packs. Each label is applied to one or more faces or end portions of the pack. The application of the comparatively small labels to the packs can impair the performance of a packaging machine. According, the present mechanism continuously transfers the labels to packs, during the continuous transportation of each pack between two processing station by a label conveyor. The conveyor includes several label holders, each of which has a pocket to retain a package within. As the conveyor rotates between stations, the package is shifted within the pocket, and is forced through a label holder. The label holder, retains a label in a position perpendicular to the direction in which the package is moved. Thus as the package is forced through the label holder the label adheres to the package. In this manner, label application is achieved in a continuous process.

Abstract: In the actuation of sealing jaws (12) for sealing of folding flaps of packages in conjunction with packaging machines, an active period of the sealing jaws independent of the working speed (rate of cycling) of the packaging machine is obtained by an actuating means (cam rocker 16), which is set off during each operating cycle of the packaging machine by a driving means with an accurately defined driving phase (stepping motor 23).

Abstract: Starting from an apparatus according to German Offenlegungsschrift No. 3,123,496, an apparatus for wrapping relatively large articles, especially a plurality of individual packs (cigarette cartons), is simplified and improved in terms of its mode of operation, in such a way that the packs (20) formed in different ways always leave the apparatus at the same point (discharge conveyor track 40) and can be supplied to a common pack tower (41). For this purpose, there are two folding turrets (38, 39) for wrapping the pack group (22) with different blanks.

Abstract: A mechanism for engaging a resting bobbin 10 carrying a web of packaging material and raising it into a rotatable web withdrawal position. A pair of bent yoke arms 17,18 straddling the bobbin carry lateral clamping jaws 14,15 at their one ends. Their other ends are movably pivotally mounted to a plate 11 by a pair of support plates 29,30 and a pair of lifting plates 25,26, the latter being eccentrically coupled to meshing drive gears 20,21. The continuous rotation of the gears successively pivots the jaw ends of the yoke arms inwardly to engage the bobbin, and thereafter raises the arms and bobbin into the working position.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying tear tapes or the like to a transported web of cellulose wrapping material. A first portion of the travelling web is momentarily halted during the application of the tear tape, which takes place by a heat welding method. During the period of time while the first portion of the web is stationary, the remaining portions of the web continue to be transported at a constant speed, due to the effect of a pair of pivotally mounted diverting rollers which form web reserves on either side of the stationary first portion.

Abstract: The disclosure is of a cigarette or like packet of composite foil, with lateral end flaps separated from inner neighboring longitudinal end flaps but continuously connected with outer longitudinal end flaps and folded in between the inner and outer end flaps with the formation of overlying triangular lappets. For making and filling the packet there is an apparatus with winding mandrels to roll the foil into a tube, and a turret having devices for filling the tube and forming it into a closed packet by folding end flaps.
