  • Patent number: 4285707
Abstract: Dust separator for the separation of even fine dust particles from a flowing gaseous media whereby a swirling action is imparted to the gas through which the coarse dust portion is centrifuged and a free-running turbine wheel is rotated so that the fine dust particles are likewise centrifuged in the blade ring of the turbine wheel.

  • Patent number: 4199933
Abstract: A power plant essentially comprises a thermal prime mover, a pressurized-gas generator for generating hot producer gas from coal, the producer gas following separation out of dust and sulphur content being utilized as fuel for the power plant. Included is a pressure-charging group consisting of coupled compressor and gas turbine units, the compressor serving to compress air and deliver it to the pressurized gas generator, and the gas turbine being driven by the hot pressurized and unburned producer gas. Two dry-state dust separators for dust entrained in the producer gas are arranged in series in the flow path of the producer gas after leaving the pressurized-gas generator.

  • Patent number: 4175382
Abstract: A steam power plant equipped with a pressure-fired boiler which supplies steam to a turbine group includes a charging group for the boiler operating at high pressure ratios comprising a compressor driven by a gas turbine for supply fuel combustion air, the gas turbine being driven by combustion gas discharged from the boiler such that the heat content of the discharged combustion gas is substantially completely consumed in the turbine and the power delivered by it to the compressor. A governor in the live steam feed line from the boiler to the steam turbine group provides a signal by way of a primary control system that (1) regulates fuel flow to the boiler, (2) adjusts the compressor blading and (3) regulates a speed governor for the charging group, and a secondary control system provides a signal dependent upon the position of the speed governor that serves to regulate a bypass at the gas side of the boiler and therefore the amount of combustion gas delivered to the gas turbine.

  • Patent number: 4147204
Abstract: A compressed-air storage installation comprising a heat accumulator for storing heat contained in compressed air and the air is passed into subterranean caverns. The heat accumulator has partitions therein which are provided between a storage medium. The partitions form a number of air passages through which the hot compressed air entering at the central region of the heat accumulator flows in an essentially outward direction, thereby cools and flows on into the cavern.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe present invention relates to a new and improved construction of a compressed-air storage installation having a heat accumulator for storing heat contained in compressed air, with the compressed air being passed into subterranean caverns. It is already known to employ compressed air instead of liquids as a storage medium for storing energy. The state-of-the-art compressed-air storage installations store compressed air at times of low load and utilize it at times of peak load to generate additional peak load energy.

  • Patent number: 4100745
Abstract: A thermal power plant of the type in which excess energy produced by the plant during off-peak load periods is used to produce compressed air which is then accumulated in a storage tank. The compressed air is withdrawn from storage during peak load periods and delivered to a hot air turbine for generation of additional energy. A heat exchanger is incorporated in he compressed air line leading from the storage tank to the hot air turbine and steam is supplied to the heat exchanger for heating the compressed air prior to delivery to the hot air turbine. Heating steam can be produced by electrically heating water in a storage tank or it can be constituted by bleeder steam taken from an auxiliary steam turbine facility, or it can be taken from a steam storage tank.

  • Patent number: 4095419
Abstract: A thermal power plant comprises a thermal prime mover and a supercharged gas generator for generating producer gas from coal which, following separation of fly ash and sulphur, serves as fuel for the power plant. A charging group for the gas generator consists of coupled air compressor and gas turbine units, the compressor unit providing compressed air for operating the supercharged gas generator and the gas turbine unit being driven by unburned producer gas from the output of the supercharged gas generator, and a dry dust collector for the fly ash is incorporated in the flow path of the producer gas either ahead of the charging gas turbine or just after the first row of its moving blading.

  • Patent number: 4094747
Abstract: A combined thermal power station and a desalination plant for seawater in which the power station includes a gas turbine set, a waste heat boiler connected to the exhaust gas outlet of the gas turbine and a steam turbine. The waste heat boiler includes first and second sections arranged in cascade on the water side in the flow path of the turbine exhaust gases, the first section in the exhaust gas flow path constituting a steam generator for the steam turbine and the second section constituting a source of heat utilized in the desalination plant. Seawater may be passed directly through the second section of the waste heat boiler or high-temperature hot water produced by the second section may be passed through a heat exchanger incorporated in the flow path of the seawater.

  • Patent number: 4058974
Abstract: A combined gas/steam power plant includes a gas turbine power set for delivering power such as for driving an electrical generator which comprises a combustion chamber, a gas turbine and a compressor driven by it, and a steam power plant comprising a steam generator and a steam turbine for delivering power such as for driving another electrical generator. Gas generators produce fuel gas for firing the combustion chamber and steam generator respectively. Independent charging groups, each comprising a gas turbine and compressor, are provided for the combustion chamber and steam generator respectively. Gasification air for generating the portion of fuel gas supplied to the combustion chamber is taken from the combustion air conveyed by the compressor of the gas turbine power set and compressed further in the compressor of the charging group allocated to the combustion chamber up to the pressure prevailing in the appertaining fuel gas generator.
