  • Patent number: 6348696
Abstract: A method for detecting the position of the edge of a moving material web by contactlessly scanning the material web with a row of sensors. The sensors generate signals that are filed in a storage unit. A turning point is determined based on the function of the signals received from the sensor locations, and is issued as the edge position.

  • Patent number: 5803334
Abstract: An edge sensor working on ultrasonic principles is used to protect the edge of a travelling web and has a plurality of sensor units with adjacent or overlapping ultrasonic measurement fields between the transmitter and receiver of each unit. The units are switched so that only one unit serves to output a receiver signal when the edge crosses over into the respective measurement field.

  • Patent number: 5575414
Abstract: A process and apparatus for guiding and keeping a material web spread out uses a spreading roll and with contact pressure elements and a control member controlled by a control system monitors the control path in a way such that the spacing of the contact pressure elements from the spreading roll is varied. Because of the advantages that the control path has in the present case, a rapid and stable control of the position of the material web is assured. This is advantageous especially in connection with highly sensitive material webs such as, for example, wide-meshed textile webs.

  • Patent number: 5460312
Abstract: The travel of a fabric web is corrected by an image acquisition from a region thereof including a guidance criterium which can be interrupted to produce a single row of image points, the signals of which are digitalized and compared with a reference signal by relative shifting of the stored signals in two shift registers. The number of shifts required to bring about correlation is determined as a measure of the actual position of the web and compared to a setpoint position for operation of an effector restoring the web to its set point position.

  • Patent number: 5377891
Abstract: An process for controlling the force exerted on a moving web of material, including a batten roller having an adjustable drive and a fixing roller having a pressure sensor. An amplifier is coupled between the pressure sensor and the adjustable drive. A web pulling device pulls the web in a downstream direction across the batten roller and the fixing roller. The pressure sensor generates a first signal representing the tensile force on the web as it passes the fixing roller. The first signal is amplified to provide a control signal to the drive for adjusting the speed of the batten roll.
