  • Patent number: 4562873
Abstract: For milling root butts on round timber, a trunk is clamped at a predetermined location and non-rotatable, a milling shaft with a milling tool is brought into abutment against the trunk, the milling tool mills in the trunk butt in the abutment region to a predetermined radial depth, then by a rotary device it is moved around the trunk and mills the root butt over the entire trunk periphery with controlling of the respective radial depth of the milling shaft by a sensor arranged to sense the outer surface of the trunk.

  • Patent number: 4405092
Abstract: A cutting device has a rotatable body part and a plurality of cutting units each arranged in a recess on the periphery of the body part. Each unit has a cutting member abutting against an abutment face in the respective recess, the supporting member connected with the body part, and a holding member loosely abutting against the abutment face of the recess, wherein the cutting member is displaceably and fixably held on the holding member and loosely abuts with its front surface against the supporting member.

  • Patent number: 4220186
Abstract: A cutting blade is mounted on a support by being clamped between a supporting portion of the support and a pressing portion of a pressing lever which is mounted on the support for pivoting about an axis which extends parallel to the elongation of the cutting blade and has an actuating portion which is acted upon by at least one actuator which urges the pressing lever towards its clamping position. A resilient mounting portion is connected to the support and to the pressing lever and mounts the pressing lever for the abovementioned pivoting. The mounting portion has enlarged foot and connecting zones which are respectively received and held in respective compatible recesses of the support and of the pressing lever, preferably in undercut grooves thereof. A part of the support, the pressing lever, the mounting portion and the actuator may constitute a unit which is interchangeably mounted on the remainder of the support.

  • Patent number: 4085494
Abstract: A wood-chipping cutter drum is rotatable about a drum axis and carries at least one elongated blade which has a cutting edge defining an orbit of rotation of the drum and which is radially displaceable in a blade direction relative to the drum axis. An adjustment device for aligning the cutting edge on an ideal desired orbit centered on the drum axis has an elongated alignment bar with a flat surface that can be brought into engagement with the cutting edge of the blade on a non-rotating drum to push it into a position lying exactly on the desired orbit. This bar is pivotal about an axis parallel to the cutting edge being adjusted and positioned relative to this cutting edge so that a line between the point of contact with the bar and the pivot axis for the bar forms a right angle with the displacement direction of the blade in the drum.

  • Patent number: 4068694
Abstract: A cutter shaft for a wood machining apparatus is provided with at least one pocket in which a cutting knife is arranged between a pressure plate and a wear part with the cutting edge of the knife projecting beyond the peripheral surface of the shaft. A wedge located in a cutout of the shaft, intersecting the pocket, is guided in the cutout movable substantially in radial direction of the shaft and engaging with a wedge face, inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the radial direction, a corresponding face of the pressure plate to press the latter against one side face of the knife and therewith the other side face against said wear part. The aforementioned angle between the two engaging faces is outside the self-locking range and at least 35.degree. and preferably about 42.degree.. The wedge is biased by a spring in radial outward direction and, during rotation of the shaft, also by centrifugal force.
