  • Publication number: 20070160986
Abstract: In a method of identifying novel virulence associated genetic information about a pathogenic microorganism including information about open reading frames (ORFs) having (a) assigned functions, (b) no assigned functions, (c) showing similarity with hypothetical proteins from other species is provided. An obligate human parasite evolutionary deprived of a substantial portion of its coding capacity is selected and genetic information about it is provided. By comparing the genetic information at least one open reading frame (ORF) common to the microorganism and the human parasite is identified, which codes for a protein (c) showing similarity with a hypothetical protein from other microorganism species. By introduction of a mutation in the ORF a mutated ORF is produced. The pathogenicity of the mutated pathogenic organism is assessed and compared with that of the corresponding non-mutated pathogenic organism.

  • Publication number: 20060134724
Abstract: A method for identifying antibacterial agents comprises depleting bacteria of a strain comprising a luxAB construct of Ca2+, incubating the Ca2+ depleted bacteria with an agent the antibacterial effect of which shall be determined, recording the light emitted by the bacteria upon addition of an aldehyde, the incubation being carried out at a temperature which is at least 10° C. higher than the temperature at which the light is emitted by the bacteria. Also disclosed are corresponding probes and antibacterial agents identified by the method.

  • Patent number: 5284653
Abstract: A live vaccine comprising an avirulent, invasive and immunogenic strain of a fish pathogenic bacterial species is used for immunization of fish against infectious diseases caused by fish pathogens by immersion of the fish into a suspension of the vaccine strain. Suitable strains for the preparation of said vaccine include Vibrio anguillarum strains DSM 4506, DSM 4507 and DSM 4508.

  • Patent number: 4822732
Abstract: A method of detecting biological substances having affinity properties by passing the substance to be detected in a flow over a solid surface to which surface a second substance, to which the substance to be detected shows affinity, is attached, so that the two substances form a complex and give enrichment of the substance to be detected. The enrichment is obtained when the fluid volume passing the active surface is many times larger than the volume in contact with the active surface. A means for detecting biological substances consisting of a flow of a fluid sample of the substance to be detected generated via a pump over a solid surface to which another substance, to which the first substance to be detected shows affinity, is attached, so that a complex is formed of the two substances and gives enrichment of the substance to be detected.
