  • Patent number: 11415076
Abstract: A method for producing a piston blank or a piston for an internal combustion engine, includes providing a thickened portion formed in at least one box wall in the direction of thickness approximately in the center thereof, which is at least partly flush with a cooling channel. A resulting piston blank or piston having these features can be made in a casting mold or forging die designed in a corresponding manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 2, 2018
Date of Patent: August 16, 2022
    Assignee: Federal-Mogul Nurnberg GmbH

  • Patent number: 10495022
Abstract: The invention relates to a piston for an internal combustion engine having two skirt wall (10), which are connected by connecting walls (14), which bear piston-pin bosses, wherein at least one skirt wall (10) has a greater wall thickness in a region (12) that is central along the piston periphery and in the lateral regions than between the central region (12) and each lateral region and is continuously curved on the inside of the piston in a section perpendicular to the piston axis, and wherein the wall thickness distribution is substantially constant in the direction of the piston axis.

  • Patent number: 10428761
Abstract: A galleryless piston having a reduced temperature during operation in an engine is provided. The piston includes an upper wall with an exposed undercrown surface. A ring belt and pin bosses depend from the upper wall, and a pair of skirt panels depend from the ring belt and are coupled to the pin bosses by struts. The piston includes an inner undercrown region and outer pockets extending along the undercrown surface. The inner undercrown region is surrounded by the skirt panels, the struts, and the pin bosses. Each outer pocket is surrounded by one of the pin bosses, a portion of the ring belt, and the struts adjacent the one pin boss. A plurality of holes extend through the pin bosses and/or the struts from the inner undercrown region to one of the outer pockets to convey cooling oil from the inner undercrown region to the outer pockets.
