  • Patent number: 6425716
Abstract: A burr tool for use with heat shrink tool holders and fittings. The tool comprises a shank fabricated from a heavy metal material. Secured to the shank through a high temperature deposition process is an abrasive material. The shank is constructed out of a heavy metal such that the shank maintains a selected diameter within a prescribed range despite being heated to a temperature necessary for deposition of the abrasive material thereupon. As such, the shank maintains tolerances necessary for the use thereof with heat shrink tool holders and fittings.

  • Patent number: 6382888
Abstract: A vibration dampened spindle and tool holder assembly for a rotary cutting machine. The assembly includes a spindle and a tool holder retained therewith. The tool holder has an interfacing ledge with a top surface for abutment with a distal spindle surface, and a continuous channel disposed in a proximal portion of the top surface. A resilient dampening member, having a rectangular or a circular cross sectional configuration, resides in the channel for compressed abutment with the spindle surface. Because the dampening member is situated within the channel, the interfacing placement of the spindle surface and tool holder top surface meet as the dampening member is enshrouded in the channel by these abutting surfaces and thereby protected from contaminant entry during dampening action.

  • Patent number: 6345942
Abstract: A method and apparatus mitigates vibration associated with the rotary cutting machines by providing a first dampening member which is disposed around a tool holder and positioned so as to be compressed intermediate the tool holder and spindle of the rotary cutting machine. A cutting tool is shrink fit to the tool holder. A neck is formed in an elongate shank of cutting tool and has dampening material disposed thereabout. The dampening material disposed around the tool holder, the dampening material disposed around the neck, and the shrink fitting of the cutting tool to the tool holder cooperate so as to minimize undesirable vibration of the cutting tool.

  • Patent number: 6161309
Abstract: A cooling unit reduces the temperature of heat shrink tool holders and extensions to ambient temperature. The cooling unit includes a housing with a removable cooling tray. The cooling tray is formed with a plurality of receptacles configured to accommodate a heat shrink tool holder or extension. Additionally, a blower is disposed within the housing for propelling a flow of ambient temperature air over the cooling tray to cool the heat shrink tool holders or extensions to ambient temperature. The blower in the cooling unit may be an axial fan with an axial inlet in fluid communication with the ambient temperature air and a radial outlet to direct the flow of air over the cooling tray. Additionally, the housing may further includes a damper disposed between the radial outlet of the fan and the cooling tray for selectively regulating the flow of air over the cooling tray.

  • Patent number: 6109842
Abstract: A tool holder that uses a dampening drive member to reduce slippage between the tool holder and the spindle and while further eliminating harmonic resonance. The tool holder is used in a rotating spindle that has at least one cam recess formed on a lower face thereof. The tool holder includes a conically tapered shank portion which is insertable into the spindle. Disposed adjacent to the shank portion is a flange portion. Extending about the flange portion is a compressible dampening drive member that has at least one cam portion sized and configured to engage a respective one of the cam recesses of the spindle. When the tool holder is secured to the spindle, the dampening drive member is compressed therebetween. The dampening drive member is adapted to eliminate harmonic resonance attributable to the use of the tool holder and prevent slippage between the tool holder and the spindle.
