  • Patent number: 7660897
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for distributing application transactions among work servers. Application transaction rates are determined for a plurality of applications supplying transactions to process. For each application, available partitions in at least one server are assigned to process the application transactions based on partition transaction rates of partitions in the servers. For each application, a determination is made of weights for each server including partitions assigned to the application based on a number of partitions in the server assigned to the application. The determined weights for each application are used to distribute application transactions among the servers including partitions assigned to the application.

  • Patent number: 7624262
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for booting a Logical Partition using an external storage device. The method creates a virtual SCSI device assigned to a first logical partition (“LPAR”) of a first computer using a virtual I/O server by mapping a LUN of a storage volume to a SCSI ID. The storage volume is located external to the first computer and the first LPAR is configured to share one or more physical processors and one or more physical I/O devices of the first computer with a plurality of LPARs. The method receives a boot request to boot the first LPAR. The boot request identifies the storage volume as a boot device using the SCSI ID of the virtual SCSI device. The method retrieves boot data from the storage volume using a SCSI driver of the first LPAR and boots the first LPAR using the boot data.

  • Patent number: 6934701
Abstract: An index advisor specifies an optimal index configuration for use in performing workloads against a database managed by a database management system. If the database and database management system are remotely located from the index advisor, then the index advisor invokes a stored procedure in the database management system in order to obtain information for the optimal index configuration.

  • Patent number: 6735594
Abstract: A method and system for retrieving data from a database over a network includes: generating an executable statement at a gateway in accordance with a macro language file, where the executable statement comprises one or more a parameter markers; passing the executable statement from the gateway to database software; and passing a value for each parameter marker from the gateway to the database software. The present invention allows the Net.Data gateway to support parameter markers in place of Net.Data variables. This allows the Net.Data gateway to take advantage of the dynamic Structured Query Language (SQL) statement caching feature available with conventional database systems. With the use of this invention, the execution of the SQL statements occurs more rapidly, saving resources and improving performance. Additionally, the Net.Data variables may be automatically replaced with parameter markers, with the Net.Data variables and their values maintained. This provides transparent support for parameter markers.
