Abstract: There is provided a mechanized device having the same basic uses as a turnbuckle and herein referred to as an automatic turnbuckle. The automatic turnbuckle of the present invention is designed to mechanically remove slack from a line and to keep a constant tension on a line. The structure of the present invention includes two protruding rods, one at either end of an elongated body which houses the mechanism. The exposed ends of the rods are looped. In the housing, the rods move parallel to each other and are connected by a spring and gear arrangement which allows manual movement of one of the rods in two directions and mechanical movement in one direction. There is a means included in the device for adjusting the movable rod to various pull lengths and for manually triggering a pulling action. The same means can be used to lock the rods into a fixed position,.

Abstract: This invention relates to a canning jar sealer lid provided with a mechanically activated valve and a means for operating the valve manually.In one embodiment, a sectional sealer lid designed for use with screw bands and other holders is constructed in two parts containing apertures and gaskets so arranged that when they are fitted together and held to a canning jar lip by a holder, they unite to form a sealer lid and a relief valve. In use on a jar, the valve formed by the sections of this lid working conjointly will activate according to internal jar pressure applied vacuum sealing the jar or releasing said pressure, and there is a means supplied to manually open the valve externally.A modified embodiment is a single thickness canning jar sealer lid designed for use with screw bands and other holders which has a pressure relief means installed directly through the lid section.

Abstract: A canning jar lifter with pivoted cross rails having loops at each end which are capable of fitting regular or wide mouth conventional canning jars externally around the neck below the seating rim and by manual operation capable of gripping the jars for lifting and self-adjusting for releasing them.The embodiment of this invention which is illustrated in the drawings and will be described in more detail hereinafter is shown as comprising a continuous strip of resilient material welded or otherwise firmly affixed end to end. Said material is of a size and so formed as to have a small loop at one end and a large loop at the other end adjoined by rails which are crossed over and pivoted. The rails are flattened in the pivot area and pinned so as to be movable. The loops extend in opposite directions at right angles to the rails. One loop is made so it will fit easily over the neck of a large mouth canning jar. The other loop fits easily over a regular sized canning jar neck.

Abstract: A pad-type jar gripper with a circular depression in the center for holding the base of a conventional canning jar securely during hot-jar processing, the gripper automatically adjusting for tighter holding when a jar is pressed downward in the pad depression and readily releasing the jar when it is lifted from the pad.As illustrated in the drawings and described in more detail hereinafter, the particular embodiment of this invention comprises a base pad having firm but pliable stubby gripper fingers angled upward from the outer edge of the pad. These fingers are so arranged around the circumference of a circular depression in the pad as to accept the bottom section of a conventional canning jar. The fingers extend up the jar sides sufficiently to prevent the jar from being easily tipped. The bottom part of the pad has a soft center directly beneath the bed of the jar-holding depression.
