  • Publication number: 20100189157
Abstract: An apparatus and method for increasing the resolution of a linear array of fiber Bragg gratings by applying a plastic coating having a high CTE over the optical fiber. Apparatus and method for determining the temperature of each of a succession of points along a tissue portion during hyperthermia treatment includes an optical fiber with a succession of closely spaced fiber Bragg gratings. Each grating is responsive to a different wavelength and is sensitive to ambient temperature to change that wavelength as a function of temperature. A tunable laser operative continuously over a range of wavelengths including those to which the gratings respond is used to interrogate the gratings. Sensitivity-enhancing coatings are used on the fibers and the lasers are tuned over very short time cycles.

  • Publication number: 20080157416
Abstract: A method of manufacturing low-haze plastic window glazing is claimed where a portion of a panel mold interior is polished with an abrasive material no finer than 600 grit size. Plastic resin is then introduced into the mold under heat and pressure to form a panel. Weatherable coating is then applied to portions of the panel via a wet coating process. An abrasion resistant coating is then applied to portions of the panel via a plasma application technique. This method produces a window glazing with at least one portion having no more than 1% haze.

  • Publication number: 20030054091
Abstract: A fixture and method for evaluating a surface coating on a specimen by determining the elongation at failure, which is carried out by conforming the specimen to a surface having a continuously and progressively varying radius of curvature to produce a range of elongations of said specimen sufficient to insure a coating failure. The radius of curvature increases in a predetermined, preferably linear relationship with the distance along the surface so that by measuring the distance to the maximum radius of curvature whereat of failure of the coating occurs, the minimum percent elongation creating failure is determined.
