  • Publication number: 20040005890
Abstract: A method and system for cell identification for uplink interference avoidance that includes a network device and mobile device in a communications network. Inter-frequency measurements are performed by a mobile device on a downlink carrier currently not used by the mobile device. A result of the inter-frequency measurements is compared with another value. Second measurements are initiated on the downlink carrier currently not used by the mobile device based on the comparison. A cell is identified based on the second measurements. The inter-frequency measurements may include receive signal strength indicator (RSSI) measurements, received signal code power (RSCP) measurements, or average channel power-to-total signal power ratio (Ec/Io) measurements. The second measurements may include signal quality measurements.

  • Publication number: 20030224733
Abstract: A communications method and apparatus are provided for estimating signal quality (Ec/IO) for uplink interference avoidance. This may involve measuring a signal strength of a carrier and estimating a value of RSCP. A signal quality estimate may be determined based on the measured signal strength and the estimated value of RSCP. Further operations (such as handovers) may be performed based on the estimated signal quality.

  • Publication number: 20030224730
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selection of downlink carriers in a cellular system that includes selecting a first downlink carrier for use by a mobile node. A decision is made that the mobile node should use another downlink carrier. The mobile node is then directed by a network node to use a second downlink carrier. The first downlink carrier and second downlink carrier may be from different cells or the same cell supplying downlink frequencies. The network node may decide that the mobile node should use another downlink carrier based on several factors such as current load conditions of the cells supplying the first downlink carrier and the second downlink carrier, a type of service on the current downlink carrier, whether the mobile node has connection capability at frequencies of the second downlink carrier, or if a potential interference condition may exist.

  • Patent number: 6650905
Abstract: The indication given by SSDT in soft handover as to whether a cell is primary or not is used by base stations whether or not the base stations actually use it to configure DSCH transmission power with the principle that if the cell is primary, DSCH power is set based on DCH and, if not then a fixed power level or an offset with respect to DCH is used.

  • Patent number: 6567459
Abstract: The invention relates to a power control method in a mobile communications system in which transmission of a signal of one logical connection over the radio path employs hopping, such as frequency hopping, antenna hopping or timeslot hopping. According to the present invention, the method is characterized in that the quality of the signal received on the radio connection is determined on one hopping setting, such as frequency, antenna or timeslot, and the power control is carried out on the radio connection in question from hopping setting to hopping setting so that the transmission power of at least one hopping setting, such as frequency, differs from the transmission power of at least one other hopping setting, such as frequency, used on the same radio connection.

  • Publication number: 20020105927
Abstract: A method and system for inter-operator handover in a telecommunications network comprising a greenfield WCDMA operator and a GSM/WCDMA operator. When a mobile terminal of the greenfield operator is moving from the coverage area of the home network to the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of GSM cells is provided to the mobile terminal for handover to a GSM cell when the home network coverage is not available. When the mobile terminal is returning home from the GSM/WCDMA area, a neighbor list of the home cells is provided to the mobile terminal so that the greenfield mobile station is connected to its home network whenever there is coverage. Preferably, the neighbor lists are provided to the mobile terminal only in the connected mode.
