  • Patent number: 7929494
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission in a digital mobile communication system. In a mobile communication system employing a so-called multi-channel access technique, one or more traffic channels may be allocated to a mobile station (MS) for data transfer, in accordance with the data transfer rate required by the application using the mobile station. In the invention, a data call is determined minimum and maximum requirements for the data transfer rate of the user data. The mobile communication network (BSS, MSC) dynamically adjusts (Handover CMD/Additional Assignment) the channel configuration assigned to the mobile station (MS) for the data call and consisting of one or more traffic channels, within the limits of said minimum and maximum requirements of the data channel, depending on the changing allocation state of the resources of the mobile communication network.

  • Patent number: 6999523
Abstract: A multi frequency carrier transmitter comprises input means for receiving a plurality of different digital signals to be transmitted. The different signals are to be transmitted on different carrier frequencies. Amplifier means receive a composite signal comprising the different signals at the respective carrier frequencies and amplify the composite signal. Predistortion means predistort the plurality of digital signals prior to amplification of the composite signal by the amplification means. The predistortion provided by the predistortion means is subsequently altered in dependence on the difference between the input signals and the output at the amplifier means.

  • Patent number: 6996400
Abstract: The present invention proposes a method of channel allocation for a mobile terminal (MS) moving in a cellular communication network (NW), said method comprising the steps of: detecting (S21) the speed of said mobile terminal (MS) moving in said network, and dependent on said detected speed (S23, S25), allocating (S24, S26, S27) a channel of a specific type to said mobile terminal (MS). Accordingly, with the present invention implemented, delays in neighbor cell SCH decoding and signal level measurement are significantly reduced and may thus no longer result in incomplete data for inter-cell handover decision or even unsuccessfull handovers. Hence, communication network performance in particular in connection with handovers in a cellular network layout is improved. The present invention also concerns an accordingly adapted device for channel allocation.

  • Patent number: 6810027
Abstract: A multi-carrier transmitting apparatus and method is described, wherein a plurality of carrier signals are combined in the digital domain and supplied to a D/A converting means (3) for converting the combined digital carrier signals into an analog signal to be transmitted. The frequency characteristic of the D/A converting means (3) is compensated by scaling means (51 to 54) for pre-scaling individual ones of said plurality of carrier signals before being combined and supplied to D/A converting means (3). The pre-scaling may be performed by multiplying digital data, representing the carrier signals, by corresponding frequency-dependent digital scaling words. Thereby, the need for signal processing intensive digital filters or non-ideal analog filters can be prevented. In case a digital power control is provided, the scaling word can be combined with a power control word.

  • Patent number: 6788729
Abstract: The invention relates to a frequency hopping method and a base station including, at the receiver end, a number of baseband processing units and broadband receiver units, which form RF sub-bands and receive frequency hopping signals according to a frequency hopping sequence from the RF sub-bands they have formed. The base station includes, at the receiver end, a switching device and channelling unit, which receive baseband signals from an intermediate band and each of which is connected to a receiver unit forming a particular RF sub-band. The switching device selects, according to the frequency hopping sequence, the channelling unit whose baseband output provides the baseband signal which is connected to the baseband processing unit. The channelling unit places the baseband signals to its baseband output according to the frequency hopping sequence.

  • Patent number: 6738365
Abstract: A method of improving connection quality and system capacity in a cellular radio system is disclosed. Each cell in the cellular radio system has at least one base station (BS) communicating with subscriber terminals (MS) in its area. The method is characterized in that the subscriber terminal transmits in two time slots and receives in two time slots during one frame, and that the subscriber terminal employs the time slots of the frame following the frame used for transmission and reception for measuring neighboring base stations. Owing to the method and cellular radio system, methods developed for improving connection quality and system capacity in a cellular radio system, such as frequency hopping, discontinuous transmission and power control, can be used on the traffic channels of the base station BCCH carrier wave frequency.

  • Patent number: 6639908
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of facilitating measurement of a transmission level, and a base station. The base station moves its broadcast (BCCH) from one time slot (10 to 17) to another so that the broadcast (BCCH) is sent in different time slots (10 to 17) of successive frames. In the long run, the broadcast (BCCH) is preferably sent in all the time slots (10 to 17).

  • Patent number: 6570860
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data transmission in a time division multiple access (TDMA) mobile communication system, in which one or more time-slots may be allocated to a mobile stations for data transmission. The mobile station indicates, upon setting up a data call, to the mobile communication network a desired level of service for the user data transfer and the mobile communication network assigns the mobile station for a data call a channel configuration consisting of one or more time- slots in connection with call set-up or handover. The assigned channel configuration depends on the resources currently available in the mobile communication network and enables a data channel performance which is within the limits of the desired level of service.

  • Patent number: 6567389
Abstract: For improving data transmission over the radio path between a mobile station and a base station in a mobile telecommunications system, a divider splits a data signal whose speed is higher than the maximum data transfer rate in one frame, into at least two signals of lower speed before transmission over the radio path. The mobile station is allocated at least two traffic channels for the high-speed data transmission so that each of the signals of lower speed is transmitted over the radio path in its respective traffic channel. A combiner combines the signals of lower speed received over the radio path, to reconstitute the original signal at the receiving end.

  • Patent number: 6498932
Abstract: Method and an apparatus for determining the pathloss between a base transceiver station (BTS) and a mobile station (MS) in a mobile radio network. In detail, a signal carrier (BCCH) having a transmitting power (PTXAV) is transmitted by a first base transceiver station (BTS-1). Thereafter, said signal carrier (BCCH) transmitted by said first base transceiver station (BTS-1) is received by a mobile station (MS) spatially separated from said first base transceiver station (BTS-1), and the signal level (PTXAV) of the received signal carrier (BCCH) is detected by said mobile station (MS). Furthermore, the detected signal level (PTXAV) of said received signal carrier (BCCH) is transmitted to a second base transceiver station (BTS-2) of a neighboring cell. In addition, the detected signal level (PTXAV) of said signal carrier (BCCH) received by said mobile station (MS) is compared with the transmitting power (PTXAV) of said signal carrier (BCCH) transmitted by said first base transceiver station (BTS-1).

  • Patent number: 6466794
Abstract: The use of frequencies can be made more efficient in a mobile communications system with frequency hopping and a method of discontinuous transmission. However, continuous transmission calls unsuitable for discontinuous transmission will hereby cause excessive interference in the network. This invention concerns a channel allocation method in a mobile communications system where some radio connections are implemented with a discontinuous transmission function. The method identifies continuous transmission calls for which according to the invention a fixed-frequency traffic channel defined as a continuous transmission traffic channel is allocated. In addition, the invention concerns an arrangement for allocation of a traffic channel in a mobile communications system where some radio connections are implemented with a discontinuous transmission function. The arrangement is adapted to identify continuous transmission calls.
