  • Publication number: 20090052506
Abstract: The invention relates to the acquisition of a code modulated signal, wherein a first set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a first replica code with different code phases and a second set of correlation results for correlations between the code modulated signal and a second replica code with different code phases are available. In order to achieve a high sensitivity, results from both sets of correlation results are combined, wherein correlation results used in the combination are selected based on information on a relative difference between a correct code phase for both replica codes. Then, it is determined based on the combination whether at least one of the sets of correlation results comprises a correlation result representing the correct code phase for the first replica code or the second replica code, respectively.

  • Patent number: 7486749
Abstract: The invention relates to determining a correct code phase of a received, code modulated carrier signal using a correlation portion, a frequency compensation portion, a coherent memory and a non-coherent memory. In order to compensate for a code Doppler effect and/or a carrier Doppler drift effect, a mapping portion maps correlation values either to the coherent memory or to the non-coherent memory. Alternatively, the mapping portion maps correlation values stored in the coherent memory or in the non-coherent memory to new positions. The mapping depends on a frequency compensation applied by the frequency compensation portion and elapsed integration time, and/or on a drift of a frequency offset in correlation values output by the correlation portion.

  • Patent number: 7447258
Abstract: A method for performing reacquisition in a positioning receiver (PR) is described, in which at least one spread spectrum modulated signal is received. In the positioning receiver (PR), a reference signal is formed by using a reference code corresponding to the code used in the modulation of the signal to be received, and a correlation is made between the received signal and the reference signal. The correlation is made in at least a first and a second part, and different correlation times are used in the first part and in the second part. The invention also relates to an electronic device (ED) comprising a positioning receiver (PR) for performing this reacquisition method.

  • Patent number: 7440493
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for a multi-path detection analysis and selectivity of CDMA signals using spread spectrum receivers using a correlation technique. The invention is based on determining by the spread spectrum receiver whether a distortion of a received radio frequency signal, caused by a multi-path component of said received signal, meets a predetermined condition using a pre-selected correlation analysis of said received signal. This invention is generally applicable to global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers and it is particularly useful in GNSS receivers, such as GPS (global positioning system) and Galileo receivers. The important goal of this invention is to provide a simple method for identifying signals that are corrupted by multi-path effects, and can be excluded from position calculation in the GNSS receivers.

  • Patent number: 7359429
Abstract: A method for supporting a determination of the correlation between at least one received code modulated signal and at least one available replica code is shown. In order to reduce the total memory size required for such correlations, the method comprises storing signal samples of the at least one received code modulated signal with a first rate in a memory. The stored signal samples are then read with a second rate from the memory for determining a correlation between the read signal samples and samples of the at least one available replica code, wherein the second rate is higher than said first rate. The disclosure relates equally to a corresponding electronic device, to a chip for such an electronic device, to a system comprising such an electronic device and to a corresponding software product.

  • Patent number: 7286592
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for a flexible multimode operation of spread spectrum receivers, e.g., global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers, using a shared circuitry hardware configuration of the receiver for processing of different types of code division multiple access (CDMA) signals. According to said method the receiver utilizes shared channel circuitry to receive signals of different CDMA types providing a flexible multimode operation. The present invention provides a way to select the received signal type for each channel by replacing the dedicated channels with multimode channels suitable to multiple types of receiver signals. The multimode receiver is more flexible to operate in varying reception conditions. By utilizing shared channel circuitry the hardware size is kept small.

  • Publication number: 20070159387
Abstract: For supporting a satellite based positioning of a mobile arrangement (30,40) with assistance data, a communication network converts parameters of a dedicated orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (50,60), which dedicated orbit model is defined for a particular satellite based positioning system, into parameters of a common orbit model describing a movement of a satellite (50,60). Alternatively or in addition, the network replaces a reference value that is based on a satellite based positioning system time in available parameters of an orbit model by a reference value that is based on a communication system time. After the parameter conversion and/or the reference value replacement, the parameters are provided as a part of assistance data for the satellite based positioning. Alternatively or in addition, a set of data is transmitted in one direction between the mobile arrangement and the communication network, which is independent of the employed positioning mode.

  • Patent number: 7242731
Abstract: A method for synchronizing a receiver (1) with a transmitted code-modulated spread spectrum signal, uses at least one reference code (r(x)), which corresponds to a code used in the modulation, and determines the frequency shift of the transmitted signal and the code phase of the code used in the modulation. In the method, a correlation step is taken to form a correlation function matrix on the basis of the received signal and said reference code. A non-coherent search matrix is formed of said correlation function matrix. In the method, elements in said non-coherent search matrix are modified on the basis of at least one statistical property of the elements in said non-coherent search matrix, and/or high-pass filtering is performed before the formation of said correlation function matrix. The invention also relates to a system and a receiver in which the method is applied.

  • Patent number: 7142589
Abstract: A method for compensating for multipath components in a received CDMA signal comprising a repetitive PRN code uses delay times in addition to the early, late and prompt delay times for determining if a multipath component is present in the received signal, and if so, making an adjustment to the delay time of the replica code generated by a receiver so as to minimize the difference between the correlation values for a delay time equal to ?1 chip and a delay time more negative than ?1 chip. In this manner, adjustments to the estimation time for the start of the PRN code can be made in a manner which minimizes the effects of multipath components. A system using additional delays and correlators in association with the code phase detector, a code numerical control oscillator and replica code generator is described for performing the above methodology.

  • Publication number: 20060234724
Abstract: A system, apparatus and corresponding method by which to synchronize to a time reference a main module of a device—a main module such as global positioning system (GPS) receiver—using a cellular communication signal received by a cellular module also included in the device. To synchronize the main module to the reference time, the invention provides a method including the steps of: having the cellular module respond to the cellular communication signal by providing to a clock module of the main module a trigger pulse derived from the data component of the cellular communication signal, and also by providing to the main module information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time. The main module is then able to resolve a value for time based on the information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time and the trigger pulse.

  • Patent number: 7124352
Abstract: To reduce the complexity of the correlation in a correlation based tracking of a code modulated signal received at a receiver, received samples and available replica samples are aligned to each other and the positions of the samples in the received signal and in the replica code sequences are grouped, each group comprising all positions at which the composition of the values of the samples of all of the replica code sequences is similar. The values of the received samples which are associated to a respective group are combined separately for each group to obtain a respective intermediate result. Then, a correlation value is determined for each replica code sequence by combining the intermediate results obtained for all groups separately for each replica code sequence, taking into account the values of the samples of the replica sequences in the respective group.
