  • Patent number: 8236246
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a gas sensitive apparatus that is useful in view of its applicability to the detection or quantitative determination of individual gases present in a gas mixture, and is advantageous in view of its compact size, and its low power consumption.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 2005
Date of Patent: August 7, 2012
Assignee: E I du Pont de Nemours and Company
    Inventor: Harry Edwards Betsill
  • Patent number: 7763208
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a device and method for converting the resistances of an array of metal oxide sensors into digital signals, wherein the sensors respond to the concentration of gases surrounding the sensor array. The device includes an electronic excitation device that provides an excitation voltage to the sensors; analog-to-digital signal conversion devices that convert the resistances of the sensors to digital signals; and means for calculating gas concentrations from the digital signals.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 1, 2004
Date of Patent: July 27, 2010
Assignee: E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: John Carl Steichen, Harry Edwards Betsill
  • Patent number: 7422723
Abstract: A breath alcohol detection device includes a one-piece multi-passage block with attached sensors, a valve and a fuel cell. The cell accurately determines the BrAC of a prospective vehicle operator. In the event the BrAC is less than the legal maximum for a territory, the device unlocks an ignition interlock to permit starting of the engine and operation of the vehicle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 24, 2003
Date of Patent: September 9, 2008
    Assignee: Alcohol Detection Systems, Inc.
    Inventor: Harry Edwards Betsill
  • Patent number: 5997535
Abstract: A control system to establish consistency in carrying out an epilation procedure, in which a main microcomputer is associated with an RF amplifier chain for producing RF energy to be transmitted to a hair follicle of a patient by means of an epilator probe, and a slave microcomputer is associated with the main microcomputer and the RF amplifier chain to protect the patient from a misapplication of RF power, the slave microcomputer independently monitors pulse timing and cooperates with the main microcomputer to enable the RF amplifier chain.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 18, 1997
Date of Patent: December 7, 1999
    Assignee: LP Systems Corporation
Inventors: Harry Edwards Betsill, Michael Joseph Kovacevich
  • Patent number: 5971982
Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling an epilation procedure in which a removal process is adaptively controlled for optimum removal prevention of scarring and minimizing sensation, and profiling RF power supplied as an inverse square of measured impedance based on a normalizing impedance.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 1997
Date of Patent: October 26, 1999
    Assignee: LP Systems Corporation
Inventors: Harry Edwards Betsill, Michael Joseph Kovacevich
  • Patent number: 5785708
Abstract: An epilator probeholder for a replaceable, flexible, insulated epilator probe including a length of coaxial cable, and a coaxial capacitor structure for holding the epilator probe. The coaxial capacitor structure has an inner female connector and an outer conductive shell, the coaxial cable inner conductor is connected to the inner female connector for holding the flexible probe, and the coaxial cable outer conductor is connected to the outer conductive shell. The inner female connector is insulated from the outer conductive shell, the other end of the coaxial cable is connected to a standard coaxial connector, and the impedance seen at the input of the standard coaxial connector is standardized.
