  • Patent number: 6508216
Abstract: A spark plug boot keeper assembly interconnects between a spark plug boot and an internal surface of a surrounding structure which defines an elongated spark plug well. A pivoting member of the assembly is located above an annular upper shelf of the internal surface and a circumferential lower rib of the boot. When the boot is properly seated on the spark plug, the lower rib engages the upper shelf. Once engaged, the pivoting member pivots to lock the boot onto the spark plug. The pivot axis lies within an imaginary plane disposed perpendicular to a centerline of the elongated spark plug well.

  • Patent number: 6467447
Abstract: A sparkplug boot keeper assembly interconnects between a heat shield and an ignition wire boot of a spark plug. A spring clip is pre-assembled internally to the heat shield which then engages a bottom portion of the spark plug after the spark plug is threaded to a head of an engine block. During assembly, as the heat shield moves axially inward over the spark plug, the pre-assembled spring clip rasps over a hexagonal portion of the spark plug and snap fits to the bottom portion. An outward facing surface of the boot is engaged to a compressed spring which in turn is engaged to an outward wall of the heat shield. Either a rotation, or an axially outward withdrawal force placed upon the heat shield, will radially expand the spring clip permitting disengagement of the heat shield and spring clip assembly from the stationary spark plug.

  • Patent number: 6119668
Abstract: An engine ignition coil and wiring arrangement uses a connection position assurance device to assist in the connection of ignition wires to an ignition coil and the maintenance of the connections in engine use. The ignition coil is provided with a pair of parallel terminal posts and a mounting surface adjacent a bolt opening. Each of a pair of ignition wires has a cable portion and a connector portion. The connection position assurance device is a T-shaped element having tower portion with a bolt opening extending lengthwise therethrough and pair of connector holding portions extending in opposite directions adjacent one end of the tower portion. Each of the connector holding portions defines a central cavity for the retention of a connector portion of one of the ignition wires. Specific insertion and access openings from the cavity are also provided for insertion and access of the ignition wire connector portion.
