    Abstract: A self-sustaining length of shirred tubular food casing comprising a stick of shirred and compressed tubular food casing having a bore extending therethrough and a sheathing material closely drawn about the periphery of said stick of shirred food casing and down about at least a portion of the terminal pleats at each end thereof and terminating at each end thereof in a reinforced aperture aligned with the bore through said shirred casing stick, said sheathing material totally retaining said stick of shirred food casing therein and forming a self-sustaining length thereof that will not be prematurely deshirred.
