  • Patent number: 4085830
Abstract: In an automatic slack adjuster for a vehicle brake, an adjuster member acts on a part of an adjustable strut assembly for maintaining a substantially constant braking clearance between a braking member and a rotatable braking surface, the adjuster member acting on the part through a driven ring, and an overload spring urges a clutch face on the driven ring into engagement with a complementary clutch face on the part so that the driven ring and the part are movable together unless the reaction between the clutch faces exceeds the loading of the overload spring whereafter the driven ring can rotate relative to the strut assembly to preclude adjustment.

  • Patent number: 4085814
Abstract: An electrically assisted cycle wherein the electrical assistance is provided by an electric drive arrangement carried on the frame of the cycle and powered by a battery also carried by the frame. The output of the drive arrangement is coupled to the driven wheel of the cycle so that operation of the electric drive arrangement can propel the cycle. The drive arrangement is mounted on the frame for limited movement relative to the frame against the action of a resilient bias provided by rubber mounting bushes. An electrical switch is operated by movement of the drive arrangement relative to the frame and the electrical switch is arranged in the energizing circuit of the motor of the electric drive assembly. The switch is operated by movement of the drive arrangement from a rest position to a position wherein the rubber bushes are stressed. Until the switch is so operated the motor cannot be energized.

  • Patent number: 3981646
Abstract: A gear pump or motor includes a housing having an 8-shaped chamber, a pair of meshed gears in the chamber and a pair of ports opening into the chamber on opposite sides of the zone of mesh of the gears. The teeth of the gears have on their non-working flanks relieved portions adjacent the tip and the root of the tooth which are arranged to leave an unrelieved land across the entire non-working flank.

  • Patent number: 3964885
Abstract: A centrifugal pump has a rotor with two aligned frusto-conical passages, between the larger ends of which is a centrifugal impeller. The lower, smaller end of one of the passages forms a pump inlet. Frusto-conical funnels within the passages act to separate a vapor core from a liquid which is ejected by the impeller. The vapor is ejected from the smaller end of the other passage. A deflector and vanes within the rotor assist ejection of the vapor.

  • Patent number: 3938398
Abstract: A torque transmitting devices has an input shaft having two axially-spaced sets of external splines. Two internally splined members are threadedly interengaged and respectively engage the spline sets on the shaft. The angular positions of the members are adjusted by spacers so that the portion of the shaft between its spline sets is in torsion, the direction of the torsion being such as to increase the threaded engagement between the members.
