  • Patent number: 6522815
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing an optical cable (1) or a modular unit for an optical cable. According to the inventive method, a metal strip that is drawn off a supply reel is gradually shaped to an open seam tube. At least one optical waveguide (2) is drawn off a second supply reel and introduced into the open seam tube. The longitudinal seam of the open seam tube is closed by welding and after welding an excessive length of the optical waveguide vis-á-vis the metal tube is produced in said metal tube. The welded metal tube (3) is crimped, dented or undulated (3b) to produce.

  • Patent number: 5975404
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for manufacturing an optical fiber cable, a metal band is gradually shaped into a lengthwise slotted tube, the optical fibers are introduced into the still open slotted tube, the lengthwise slot of the tube is welded and the outside diameter of the welded tube is reduced. The welded tube with the reduced outside diameter is wound at least once around a take-up reel. A force provided on the reduced outside diameter welded tube as it is wound on the take-up reel causes an elastic strain of 0.1 to 0.6% on the tube. The strain is released on the take-up reel to produce an overlength of the optical fibers relative to the reduced outside diameter welded tube.

  • Patent number: 5613631
Abstract: In a method for producing a lengthwise welded metal tube with an outside diameter of 1 to 6 mm, whereby a metal band is shaped into a lengthwise slotted tube by a forming tool, and the lengthwise slot of the tube is welded by a laser welding installation, the tube to be welded passes immediately before and immediately after the welding point area through a guide that guides the surface of the tube to keep the edges of the band in contact with each other and keeps the welded seam stress-free. The jaws of a clamping tool grip the welded tube immediately downstream of the guide to keep it from twisting.

  • Patent number: 5489056
Abstract: A conveying device for transportation of extended line products such as cables or tubes has tension elements to exert a tension force on at least two tension chain wheels in the direction away from the driving chain wheels. A self-locking wedge prevents the tension chain wheels from moving back and forth. The automatic adjustment of the roller chains reduces wear of the conveying device and prevents speed changes during transportation of the extended line product.

  • Patent number: 5142298
Abstract: A method for the continuous marking of elongated material (1) which is moved in its longitudinal direction, by which ring-shaped markings which are limited in axial direction are applied to the surface of the material (1) by means of ink jets (2). The ink jets (2) emerge under pressure from two nozzles (6, 7) which are arranged parallel to each other and swing continuously on a swing shaft (5). If only one nozzle (6) is to function, the other nozzle (7) is closed by a 3/2-way valve (20). At the same time, a bypass (18) is opened through which the quantity of ink intended for the disconnected nozzle (7) is conducted away. The ink jet (2) of the still functioning nozzle (6) is then retained without change.

  • Patent number: 4958780
Abstract: In combination with a spool upon which elongated stock such as ribbon, wire, thread etc. is to be wound and from which the elongated stock is to be unwound; an electromagnet with cooperating armature and a yoke; the device is to be selectively used as a brake and as a clutch. This is accomplished by a permanent air gap from 0.1 to 1.5 mm between the yoke and the armature to remain effective in the energized state. On application of a relatively high voltage to the electromagnet positive coupling obtains between the electromagnet and the armature and, therefore between a shaft connected to the electromagnet and the armature as thereafter being connected to the spool; for positive common rotation of these parts. Upon application of a lower voltage to the electromagnet, a brake force becomes effective between the electromagnet on one hand, plus armature and the spool subassembly on the other hand.
