  • Patent number: 4581305
Abstract: The electrochemical cell comprises an outer conductive housing, an anode material within the housing, a cathode material within the housing, and porous insulating means separating the anode material from the cathode material, and an electrolyte inside the housing and within the porous insulating means. The cathode material is a mixture of a metallic halogen compound and a metallic sulfide compound less electrochemically reactive with the anode material than the metallic halogen compound.

  • Patent number: 4544078
Abstract: The method for closing and sealing the opening of a wall of a container includes the steps of: providing the opening with a counterbore; inserting a first plug member into said opening in a fluid tight manner to establish a first seal; inserting a second plug member into said counterbore and above said first plug member and said opening; and fixing and sealing said second plug member to said wall around said counterbore so that a fluid tight second seal is formed between said second plug member and said wall thereby to provide a double seal for preventing leakage of fluid material from said container through said opening. The fluid tight closure assembly is adapted to provide a fluid tight closure for closing and sealing the opening in the wall of the container having fluid material therein. The closure assembly includes a first plug member which is inserted into the opening in the wall of the container in a fluid tight manner to establish a first seal, the opening being provided with a counterbore.

  • Patent number: 4388380
Abstract: A lithium cell which includes an outer conductive housing, a cathode having one major surface in contact with the conductive housing, an insulative separator adjacent to the other major surface of the cathode, and a lithium anode having a major surface adjacent to the insulative separator. The lithium anode is comprised of two lithium plates, each having a major surface in contact with the other. One of these major surfaces is formed with a stepped portion to thereby form a gap between the lithium plates. A conductive sensing element is positioned within the gap and is in electrical contact with one of the lithium plates and is electrically isolated from the other lithium plates. With this arrangement an electrical potential which exists between the conductive sensor and the outer conductive housing falls to zero volts when the lithium plate in contact with the conductive sensor has become consumed to thereby provide an indication of predetermined level of discharge of the cell.

  • Patent number: 4184937
Abstract: An electrochemical cell for the detection of chlorine which includes a gold working electrode and a counter electrode, with or without a reference electrode, comprising either gold or platinum black which operate in a substantially non-aqueous electrolyte consisting preferably of lithium perchlorate dissolved in an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of .gamma.-butyrolactone and propylene carbonate. A fixed potential is maintained between the working electrode and a referenced air electrode of between +500 to -700 mv, and, preferably, between -100 to -150 mv.

  • Patent number: 4169779
Abstract: An electrochemical cell for the detection of hydrogen sulfide which includes a gold working electrode and a counter electrode, with or without a reference electrode, comprising either gold or platinum black which operate in a substantially non-aqueous electrolyte consisting preferably of lithium perchlorate dissolved in an organic solvent selected from the group consisting of .gamma.butyrolactone and propylene carbonate. A fixed potential is maintained between the working electrode and a referenced air electrode of between 300 to 1100 mv, and, preferably, between 500 and 1000 mv.
