Abstract: An image-forming apparatus is provided which includes a document reading section for reading image information from a document, and an image-forming section for forming an image on a sheet of paper based upon the image information of the document read by the document reading section. A space section is formed below the document reading section, which accommodates the image-forming section and serves as a discharge section to which the sheet of paper bearing the image formed in the image-forming section is discharged. The space section is surrounded by peripheral walls of an apparatus main body including the image-forming section. The image-forming apparatus further includes a paper post-treatment section that subjects the sheet of paper bearing the image to post-treatments, such as an adjustment process and a stapling process, in a virtually horizontal state, and that is placed between the document reading section and the space section.

Abstract: A paper shredder is provided not only with cutters for cutting paper, a driver for driving the cutters and a power source for the driver, but also with a service power outlet from which power can be supplied to an external electrical equipment such as a vacuum cleaner. A door is provided to cover the outlet such that the driver can be operated only while the door is closed and cannot be switched on if the door stays open.

Abstract: An electrophotographic copying machine of a type having a drum for supporting a document to be copied therearound and being provided with an automatic document feeder adapted to carry out a preliminary copying operation for testing includes a timer for counting up a predetermined period of time after the completion of preliminary copying, or is alternatively so programmed that a choice can be made after a preliminary copying operation whether a document remaining in the copying position should be ejected. Jamming of documents and injury to the copying machine can be avoided effectively thereby.

Abstract: A copying machine includes a device for eliminating unwanted black areas caused by insufficient light exposure when copies are made, for example, from a bulky original. The device includes a central processing unit to calculate the timing at which an auxiliary light source disposed inside the copying machine should be turned on so that the portions of a latent image formed on its photosensitive body, which would result in unwanted black areas on the copy paper, are eliminated by the timely exposure of these portions by the auxiliary light source.

Abstract: An electrophotographic copying machine includes a control circuit, a combined display responsive to the control circuit for showing the number of one or more copied papers, and the position of any paper jam or the operation condition. The combined display utilizes figure segments illuminated to form any figure, silhouette segments of the figure segments illuminated to provide a silhouette of the copying machine, and position marks illuminated to indicate the position of trouble in the machine and its operation conditions.

Abstract: A translucent document cover for an electrophotographic copying machine is provided for pressing a copy document onto a document table. For example, it comprises a combination of a first film which is white and translucent, and a second film which is transparent. Preferably, it has an opacity of about 80-85%. The translucent document cover has some line indexes for indicating the accurate positioning of the copy document. Further, the document cover may be provided with marks for indicating ratios of magnifying/reducing the copy document.
