  • Publication number: 20160327425
Abstract: A weight-measuring system for measuring a weight amount of one or more items loaded into a bed of a vehicle is provided. The weight amount can be used to determine whether a weight limit has been exceeded and whether some additional action should be taken. In addition, one type of weight-measuring system is operable under varied conditions, such as rapid weight fluctuations, and is capable of measuring a weight amount when the bed is in various positions (e.g., transporting mode or ground-level, loading mode).

  • Publication number: 20160329637
Abstract: The ferrite-loaded circular waveguide antenna for 3D scanning includes the design and optimization of an axially magnetized ferrite loaded circular waveguide antenna with three-dimensional (3D) scan characteristics. The ferrite cylinder is concentrically placed within the circular waveguide and magnetized using solenoid coils wound around the waveguide. The waveguide antenna is excited using an optimally positioned coaxial connector. By changing the magnetic biasing of the ferrite cylinder, individual modes within the multi-mode wave guide are affected separately. This generates tapered Ey-field distribution in the radiating edge of the waveguide, which leads to beam scan. Professional software is used to optimize the dimension and magnetizing requirement of the antenna to realize up to ±30° of beam scan in the azimuth and elevation planes. The magnetizing fields (H0) required for the 3D scan are tabulated.

  • Patent number: 9151793
Abstract: The method for measuring the complex dielectric constant of a substance is based on calculations made in the frequency domain. An open ended rectangular waveguide terminates, at one end, in a non-resonant rectangular cavity, which is then filled with a substance of interest. An electromagnetic wave of known frequency is transmitted through the waveguide and the reflection coefficient at the interface between the waveguide and the cavity is measured by a network analyzer or the like. Another measurement is then made with a slight variation in depth of the cavity or a variation in frequency, and from these two measurements of the reflection coefficient, the complex dielectric constant of the substance of interest can be calculated.
