  • Patent number: 9338021
Abstract: An electronic communication network includes a connectivity subsystem. The connectivity subsystem registers a control subsystem with the connectivity subsystem. The control subsystem requests that network traffic be redirected from the connectivity subsystem to the control subsystem. In response to the request, the connectivity subsystem redirects network traffic from the connectivity subsystem to the control subsystem.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: May 10, 2016
    Assignee: Trend Micro Incorporated
Inventors: Alexander Sarin, Hazem Kabbara, Chin Yaw Tiew
  • Patent number: 9264240
Abstract: A technique includes selecting a first device from a plurality of interconnected devices to form a root of a power tree connecting the interconnected devices and allocating power among neighbors of the interconnected devices in a direction along the tree away from the root. The technique includes determining whether at least one of the interconnected devices needs power after the allocation of power among the neighbors and selectively further allocating power among the neighbors in a direction along the tree toward the root based on the determination.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 9, 2011
Date of Patent: February 16, 2016
Assignee: HEWLETT PACKARD ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT LP
    Inventors: James Hiscock, Hazem Kabbara
  • Publication number: 20120228936
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a management agent which has access to power output control circuitry of a digital electronic communication switch, a power meter, a load sharing means, and the ability to manage the power of switching circuits in the switch. The power meter enables the management agent to identify the power consumed by the switching circuits that are enabled and operational. This information, coupled with (1) knowledge of the power allocated to each port via PoE, and (2) policy information (which specifies power allocation preferences) is used in a two-pass power management method.

  • Publication number: 20110209215
Abstract: An electronic communication network includes a connectivity subsystem and security scanning resources. The connectivity subsystem checks the present trust level of the source of received traffic to determine if security scanning resources are to be used and how to use the security scanning resources.

  • Patent number: 7982336
Abstract: Power is automatically allocated among a plurality of network switches, such as a plurality of stackable switches. In one embodiment, one device in the network is designated as a “master” device which controls the power allocation for all of the switches. In another embodiment, a distributed algorithm is used, in which each device uses power allocation decision logic to formulate a mutually agreed-upon power allocation. Power from multiple power-granting devices may be consolidated to provide aggregated power to one or more power-needing devices.
