Abstract: A remote gaze tracking apparatus and method for controlling an Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) are provided. An entire image including a facial region of a user may be acquired using a visible ray, the facial region may be detected from the acquired entire image, and a face width, a distance between eyes, and a distance between an eye and a screen may be acquired from the detected facial region. Additionally, an enlarged eye image corresponding to a face of the user may be acquired using at least one of the acquired face width, the acquired distance between the eyes, and the acquired distance between the eye and the screen, and an eye gaze of the user may be tracked using the acquired eye image.

Abstract: A light guide plate having a pattern to minimize generation of a dark zone and a backlight unit including the same are disclosed. The light guide plate includes an intaglio pattern consisting of recesses formed in a surface opposite to a light emitting surface thereof to have a cross section having major-axis and minor-axis diameters and depth, the recesses being spaced apart from one another in first and second directions by first and second distances respectively. The density of the intaglio pattern is directly proportional to the major-axis and minor-axis diameters and depth, and is inversely proportional to the first and second distances. The intaglio pattern has the minimum density in a first region adjacent to a light source, and the maximum density in a second region that is the maximum distance from the light source. A density ratio of the maximum density to the minimum density is 900.

The backlight unit according to an embodiment includes light sources configured to emit light, and a light guide plate disposed parallel to the light sources and configured to convert spotted lights entered from the light sources into two-dimensional light. The light guide plate includes a plurality of air barriers arranged at a fixed interval and configured to guide lights from the light sources in blocks with a width of the fixed interval.

Abstract: Provided are method and apparatus for generating a digital multimedia broadcasting application format. The apparatus includes: generating metadata for DMB contents; and combining the generated metadata and the DMB contents, wherein the metadata includes copyright information for the metadata, user information for a user who consumes the DMB contents, and package table information for describing a package related to the DMB contents.

Abstract: Provided are a package identification method and a location resolution method, more particularly, a package identification method for identifying a dependent package linked with a main AV and independent packages not linked with the main AV, and a location resolution method. Both when the package is dependent and linked with the main AV and when the package is independent and not linked with the main AV, a CRID is used as an identifier for the package. The present invention supports TVA-2 service scenarios by suggesting improved package identification and a location resolution mechanism.

Abstract: The present research relates to description supporting a targeting scheme, more particularly, to an extended description structure supporting a targeting scheme and a TV-Anytime service providing method and system employing the same based on Moving Picture Experts Group 21 (MPEG-21) Usage Environment Description (UED) tools. The TV-Anytime service providing system employing the extended description structure includes a service providing apparatus for generating package metadata including user information and usage environment information; and a user device for acquiring the package metadata including user information and usage environment information from the service providing apparatus through diverse access networks.

Abstract: Provided is a method and system for prohibiting a predetermined advertisement (ad) combination from being reproduced together within a predetermined period. The method includes: a) analyzing metadata including a prohibited combination period element for providing prohibited combination period information for prohibiting a combination of a first ad and a second ad and a condition element for providing condition information including characteristics information of the second ad; b) checking whether the second ad satisfying the condition is reproduced in the prohibited combination period; and c) when the second ad is not reproduced, reproducing the first ad and blocking the second ad from being reproduced during the prohibited combination period. When the second ad is reproduced, the first ad is not reproduced. The technology of the present invention can prohibits a predetermined combination of ads in an environment where ads can be substituted in a digital broadcasting receiving apparatus .

Abstract: Provided is a method for providing advertisements (ads) in diverse forms based on the type of an ad in a personalized broadcasting environment, and a system thereof, The method includes the steps of: a) analyzing metadata including a descriptor for defining relationship between an ad and a broadcasting program; b) determining the type of the ad among a normal ad type, a telescoped ad type, and a speedbump ad type based on relationship description used for the descriptor; and c) providing the ad based on the determined ad type. The technology of the present invention makes a user watch ads in diverse forms by adopting a “HowRelated” descriptor which defines the relationship between a broadcasting program and an ad and includes several types of relationship description to thereby inform a user of the location and the type of the ad.

Accordingly, the present invention provides effective targeting by automatically matching characteristics described in a package to a usage environment.
