  • Patent number: 8451089
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for radio identification with an additional close-range check, which prevent misuse of a radio identification system and increase the security of radio identification. In particular, so-called relay attacks are to be largely prevented in passive entry systems. The method according to the invention firstly provides for activation of a transponder (S1) for reading of its data. After this step, an additional close-range status signal is provided (S2) which indicates the close range of a reader. Once the close-range status signal has been detected by a transponder (S3), data transmission for reading of the data stored in the transponder by the reader is possibly enabled in reaction to the detection of the close-range status signal (S4) and the data can be read by the reader for identification of the transponder (S5).

  • Publication number: 20080024322
Abstract: It is proposed that passive wireless transponder systems used in the context of procedures for access identification be provided with signaling that can be perceived by human beings. This also makes it possible to detect that a relay attack, which is difficult to prevent, is being carried out. Attention is also drawn to other types of manipulative interference with the communication and to certain problems with the high-frequency transmission. By the employment of comparatively inexpensive and highly reliable means, this near-simultaneous perception of an identifying process for access purposes produces a very effective reduction in such threats to the security of the system. Other simple measures may have an advantageous effect in connection therewith. The signaling may also assist an ergonomic process. For example, an automobile entry or access system that is not specifically actuated, referred to as a passive keyless entry system, may be improved.

  • Publication number: 20070139271
Abstract: The invention relates to an antenna module for use in hand-held communication devices with two antennae designed to operate both in the GSM and the UMTS frequency bands. In order to realize a particularly small device it is suggested to use two dielectric block antennae (DBA) working in different frequency ranges. This type of antenna comprises a dielectric substrate with a first and a second metallic resonator structure printed on its surface and is basically known from EP 1 289 053 A2. Using two antennae reduces the total volume and consequently the mass in comparison to the case if only one antenna (DBA) is used. At the same time the radiation performance is improved. Additionally the design freedom is increased because the relative positions of the antennae are nearly independent. Furthermore the invention relates to a method to operate a telecommunication device with two antennae, in which the signal of a radio frequency generator is transferred via a power control unit to both antennae at the same time.

  • Publication number: 20070001906
Abstract: A description is given of a switchable multiband antenna for the highfrequency and microwave range, which can be operated in a relatively large number of frequency bands without significant restriction of performance in each individual frequency band. This is essentially achieved by a switchable input structure (24) by means of which resonant printed line structures (21; 22) of the antenna that are not required can be isolated from an HF or ground supply line (242). In particular, in one embodiment, a number of resonant printed line structures are applied to a substrate (10), which printed line structures are connected to the corresponding HF or ground supply line or isolated from the latter, in a targeted manner, by means of one or more switching devices.
