  • Patent number: 4875405
Abstract: A sealing device particularly suitable for sealing pistons of working cylinders and for sealing two machine components which can slide against one another is disclosed. A conventional sealing element consisting of low-friction, but not very elastic material, such as PTFE plastic material, and resting on an elastic support, is used. The cross-section of the sealing element in a direction of the sliding motion is U-shaped and encircles the support. The dimensions of the support and the sealing element are determined such that the support exerts prestress forces on the sealing element which try to bend the rim areas of the sealing element outward against the sliding surface for the sealing element. Consequently, an additional force component, directed toward the sliding surface, results for the pressure force which is exerted on the sealing element by the support and functions as a sealing force.

  • Patent number: 4633758
Abstract: A fluid-pressure-operated, double-acting working cylinder which dampens the final braking of the work piston, includes a cylinder housing with a movable work piston disposed therein, the work piston dividing the cylinder into two work chambers. A piston rod, on which the work piston is mounted, extends through the housing. At least one auxiliary braking member is disposed on at least one side of the work piston in an offset slidable relation to the work piston. A braking arrangement disposed on the auxiliary braking member is controlled by fluid pressure to brake the auxiliary braking member to a desired position within the cylinder. A dampening chamber, a dampening spring configuration is disposed between the auxiliary braking member work piston such that, following braking of the auxiliary braking member, continued movement of the work piston is effectively dampened.

  • Patent number: 4617857
Abstract: A longitudinally-slotted pressure cylinder, closed on both ends, has a longitudinal slot formed along a substantial portion of the length of the housing, and a piston which is movable within a chamber formed in the housing. A driver member is eccentrically attached to the piston, the driver member having an outer portion extending outward from the slot and an inner portion which is formed substantially to the contour of the inner chamber wall. The driver member attaches to the piston at a point distant from the longitudinal slot. A flexible sealing arrangement is disposed along the longitudinal slot such that, fluid pressure used to move the piston cannot escape through the longitudinal slot as the piston and driver member travel along the slot.
