  • Patent number: 4627645
Abstract: A pipe coupling wherein an elastic sleeve receives the end portions of two pipes and has a partition which extends between the end portions of the pipes. The sleeve is surrounded by a split ring in the form of a band whose end portions are spot welded to strip-shaped female components of a device for tightening the band around the sleeve. The median sections of the female components define with the band two aligned passages for the shank of a bolt whose head can be rotated to move it nearer to a nut which meshes with the shank and extends into a centrally located corrugation of the band. The head and nut flank the median sections of the two female components of the tightening device. Each end section of each of the two female components is welded to the adjacent portions of the band at two or more locations which are disposed at different distances from the gap between the two components.

  • Patent number: 4622719
Abstract: A helically convoluted hose clamp has a central portion of rectangular cross-sectional outline, two intermediate portions of rectangular or V-shaped cross-sectional outline, and two radially outwardly extending end portions. The moments of resistance of the intermediate portions exceed the moment of resistance of the median portion, and the overall length of the clamp is in excess of 1.5 convolutions preferably between 2.5 and 2.6 convolutions. The inner diameter of the clamp is normally less than the outer diameter of the hose which is to be clamped on a pipe or the like. The length of the intermediate portions exceeds the length of the end portions, and each such intermediate portion can extend along an arc of approximately 360 degrees. Pronounced moments of resistance of the intermediate portions promote the clamping action and prevent the end portions from yielding and bending when they are acted upon to increase the inner diameter of the clamp.

  • Patent number: 4468840
Abstract: A clamp for hoses or the like has an elongated band the end portions of which overlap each other and are held in overlapped relationship to form a loop around the hose or the like. Each end portion has an outwardly extending projection which can be engaged by a tool to tension the clamp. The projection on the outer end portion is a lug which is plastically deformable in a direction toward the other end portion when the maximum permissible tensioning force is reached. This ensures that the maximum permissible force cannot be exceeded and allows for a visual control as to whether or not the clamp has been properly tightened.

  • Patent number: 4451070
Abstract: A hose coupling is of the type wherein the end portion of an elastic hose is slipped over a pipe whose end portion has at least one external collar. The hose is held against axial movement relative to the pipe by a ring-shaped elastic clamping device having an internal bead whose inner diameter exceeds the maximum diameter of the collar. The outer diameter of the end portion of the hose in unexpanded condition of such end portion also exceeds the maximum diameter of the collar. The wall thickness of the end portion of the hose is such that it exceeds half the difference between the inner diameter of the bead and the maximum diameter of the collar. The clamping device is slipped onto the end portion of the hose before the end portion of the hose is slipped onto the end portion of the pipe whereby the clamping device travels over and beyond the collar.

  • Patent number: 4449429
Abstract: A power tool for tensioning hose clamps of the type wherein one end portion of a strap overlies the other end portion and has a laterally extending tip which can break away or bend in response to the application of a pull sufficient to effect satisfactory tensioning of the looped central portion of the strap around a hose or the like. The tool has a barrel with an inlet receiving the one end portion so that the tip can be engaged by the shoulder of an entraining element mounted at the front end of a retractible piston rod. The tensioning element is reciprocable in and relative to a bearing which is reciprocable in the barrel by interposition of friction reducing rolling elements. When the piston rod is retracted, the shoulder of the tensioning element moves against the tip of the one end portion of the strap and exerts a pull upon the tip while moving with the bearing so that the force which is needed to bend or break the tip at least approximates the maximum force that is necessary to retract the piston rod.

  • Patent number: 4418448
Abstract: A hose clamp wherein a flexible metallic strap has a loop-shaped intermediate portion, an externally toothed first end portion which is overlapped by the intermediate portion and whose teeth mate with the internal teeth of the intermediate portion, and a second end portion whose free end is doubled over itself to form an L-shaped projection having an end face at the inner side of the second end portion. Such end face abuts against the complementary face of a protuberance which is formed on the second end portion by stamping or the like and extends beyond the inner side of the second end portion. The abutting faces greatly enhance the resistance which the projection of the second end portion offers to bending into the general plane of the second end portion during tensioning of the intermediate portion around a hose or the like.

  • Patent number: 4300270
Abstract: The housing for the screw of a hose clip has a tubular section with a flat bottom wall a portion of which extends laterally beyond the tubular section and is overlapped by a plate-like second portion forming part of and being inclined with reference to a side wall of the tubular section. When the screw is rotated in a direction to tension the band which is placed around a hose, pipe or a like structure, the screw tends to move the extension toward such structure. The extension is or can be hollow to receive parts of the overlapping end portions of the band. Reinforcing ribs are provided at the outside of the housing between the side wall of the tubular section and the extension. The housing is made of a sheet metal blank which is deformed to form the tubular section and the two portions of the extension, and such portions of the extension are thereupon welded to each other.
