  • Patent number: 5524409
Abstract: A building roof or wall covering consisting of panels formed along their lengthwise edge with each panel having a central expanse which may include a rib. Each panel has a primary rib edge structure including a foot for securement to an underlying building component and additionally including a first wall extending upwardly from the foot and having outwardly and inwardly inclined portions which terminate in a rib top wall. Acutely convergent wall portions of a remaining wall form a lip having an apex. A secondary rib edge structure includes a marginal edge also of acute cross section for hooked engagement with the apex of the primary rib on an adjacent panel and also having an outer wall overlying the top wall of the primary rib of the adjacent panel. Outwardly and inwardly inclined panel portions of the secondary rib overlie and engage in a retentive manner the outwardly and inclined wall portions of the primary rib of an adjacent panel.

  • Patent number: 4483657
Abstract: A vertical axis wind turbine having a horizontal arm member which supports an upright blade assembly. Bearing structure coupling the blade assembly to the turbine arm permits blade movement about its longitudinal axis as well as flexing motion of the blade assembly about axes perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. A latching mechanism automatically locks the blade assembly to its supporting arm during normal turbine operation and automatically unlocks same when the turbine is at rest. For overspeed prevention, a centrifugally actuated arm functions to unlatch the blade assembly permitting same to slipstream or feather into the wind. Manually actuated means are also provided for unlatching the moving blade assembly. The turbine arm additionally carries a switching mechanism in circuit with a turbine generator with said mechanism functioning to open and hence protect the generator circuit in the event of an overspeed condition of the turbine.

  • Patent number: 4130380
Abstract: Airfoil blade construction utilizing a spar assembly consisting of a primary and secondary spar interconnected by a web. A tower supports a rotor structure with outwardly curved airfoil blades carried at the outer ends of rotor arm members. Aerodynamic blade sections are formed with irregular, transversely extending openings to permit sliding disposition onto the blade spar assembly. The aerodynamic sections are joined by a suitable bonding agent. A suitable exterior is applied to the joined aerodynamic sections to reinforce the airfoil construction as well as to protect same from the elements. Fittings on the spar assembly enable attachment of the airfoil to a supporting structure.
