  • Patent number: 9487636
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an inorganic, halogen-free flameproofing agent made of modified, rehydrated red mud (MR2S), having a mineral composition of 10 to 50 weight percent of iron compounds, 12 to 35 weight percent of aluminum compounds, 5 to 17 weight percent of silicon compounds, 2 to 21 weight percent of TiO2, and 0.5 to 6 weight percent of calcium compounds, wherein the compounds of iron have a hydroxide and oxide hydrate fraction greater than or equal to 50 weight percent relative to the oxide fraction of the iron compounds, and wherein the compounds of aluminum have a hydroxide and oxide hydrate fraction greater than or equal to 50 weight percent. The disclosure further relates to a flameproofed material system comprising a flammable material and the inorganic, halogen-free flameproofing agent and to a method for the production thereof.

  • Publication number: 20090321025
Abstract: This invention relates to pulp reactivity enhancement. In particular, the invention relates to a method of producing an alkali cellulose which includes steps of providing a pulp and subjecting the pulp to an alkaline treatment to produce the alkali cellulose in the presence of a spacer capable of entering the holes in the interfibrillar spaces of the cellulose fibres. The spacer enters the holes in the interfibrillar spaces of the cellulose fibres, particularly those created by the removal of hemi-cellulose, reducing the tendency for collapse to occur, for example during the subsequent pressing step. Examples of suitable spacers are polyethylene glycols, polyvinyl alcohols and polyacrylates.

  • Patent number: 7267744
Abstract: This invention provides a process for treating chemical woodpulp, or chemical cellulose including cotton linter, including the step of applying an electron processing technology (EPT) step to chemical woodpulp, or chemical cellulose, as the case may be, on an in-line basis to provide control of pulp viscosity or degree of polymerization (DP). The invention also provides a method of process control in treating the aforementioned woodpulp or cellulose, including the step of using radiation dose-viscosity relationship curve for applying an EPT step on an in-line basis. The in-line EPT step may, in one form of the invention, replace and hence eliminate a chemical DP reduction step.

  • Patent number: 6538130
Abstract: In the manufacture of viscose, and an elongate cellulose member such as standard viscose rayon fibre, with reduced alkali ratio from dissolving-grade cellulose such as wood pulp by irradiation with a high energy beam at a dose of 1-30 kGy, steeping in aqueous sodium hydroxide, pressing to form alkali cellulose, xanthating to form cellulose xanthate, dissolving in aqueous liquor to form viscose and (when elongate cellulose members are required) extruding through a die into an acid bath for coagulation and regeneration to form an elongate cellulose member which is then washed and dried, viscose filtration can be improved by including in the dissolving liquor for the cellulose xanthate an amount of from 200 to 10000 ppm by weight of a salt which consists of alkali metal or ammonium cations and anions of a strong acid.
