Patent number: 10936502Abstract: A computing device includes a persistent storage and a processor. The processor includes a local storage. The local storage includes blocks and an address space. The address space includes a first portion of entries that specify blocks of the local storage and a second portion of entries that specify blocks of the remote data storage. The processor obtains data for storage and makes a determination that the data cannot be stored in the local storage. In response to the determination, the processor stores the data in the remote storage using the second portion of entries.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2017Date of Patent: March 2, 2021Assignee: EMC IP Holding Company LLCInventors: Bob Yan, Helen Yan

Patent number: 8429655Abstract: System and methods for asynchronous processing within a web page lifecycle, enabling web page developers to integrate asynchronous work within the web page implementation that can store state inside the page and is applied to requests to the particular page. Handlers initiate event-based or task-based asynchronous operations without keeping a dedicated thread while waiting for a response. The thread is returned to a pool of available threads upon initiation of the process. Results are received on other threads and provided to the page before rendering. Timeout errors are also provided, if a particular result is not received within specified period. The events are delivered in a serial manner so that the page developer uses request instance data without explicit synchronization. This makes a high-scale, asynchronous processing model less complex and more accessible to developers accustomed to web scripting, which is traditionally synchronous.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2005Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Erik B. Olson, Andres Sanabria, Dmitry Robsman, Helen Yan, Peixin Han, Nikhil Kothari

Patent number: 7614806Abstract: A damping system for an electromagnetically operable rotary shutter includes a damper for arresting the motion of a pivotally supported shutter actuating drive arm. The damper has a first portion composed of an ultrahigh density polyethylene and a second portion composed of a damped polyurethane that are arranged to strike one against the other during operation of the shutter. Moreover the first portion of the damper has a straight edge and the second portion has a surface that is curved so as to maintain substantially a point contact between the two portions throughout the duration of the impact between the two. The combination of materials and configuration of the surfaces of the two portions provides energy absorption while avoiding the adherence of the two portions upon impact.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2003Date of Patent: November 10, 2009Assignee: VA, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Pasquarella, Helen Yan, Christopher Akuncius

Patent number: 6652165Abstract: A damping system for an electromagnetically operable shutter includes a detent for arresting the motion of a pivotally supported shutter actuating drive arm. The detent has damper portions that are fixed to the pivotally supported drive arm and bumper portions that are fixed t positions to receive the impact of the dampers as the arm is pivoted in one direction or another to operate the shutter. The damper portions each has a straight edge and the surface of each bumper portion is curved so as to maintain substantially a point contact between the two throughout the duration of the impact. In addition the damper portions are formed of a damped polyurethane and each bumper portion is formed of an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, the combination of materials providing energy absorption while avoiding the adherence of damper and bumper portions upon impact.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2002Date of Patent: November 25, 2003Assignee: VA, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Pasquarella, Christopher Akuncius, Helen Yan
